1. Get the car on a ramp inspect diff mounts, engine mounts, gear box mounts
2. Look for sweating from the intercooler boost pipes this might be a boost leak
3. Gearbox should be smooth and if you flat foot it should drop a gear almost immediately
4. Ask if it has software and who has done it
5. Listen to the idle, if it idles really loud it could be injector issues
6. Look at the service book and ensure it was serviced on time
7. Ask if the turbo was replaced and by who, if recently make sure a garret turbo was used
8. Control arms are a common wear item and will give the car a “loose feeling”

thats all that I can think off , Andy and Netercol might be able to add to this

if it were me personally I would steer clear from a diesel + turbo and 200 000kms unless I knew the owner and there is FSH

People make these cars out to be bad but they really not look at Diesel fan boy with 400 000 km on a E46 330d

Good advice from Nikhil
Also, rather check for a manual if you can, those auto boxes can be a hassle sometimes depends on how it's been treated for the past 200,000kms

Just don't get the auto. Look for a 6speed manual as those will be 150kw too. Only problem with them is the turbo wears more, spooling from lower rpm. And the steal manifold is known to crack. Otherwise solid cars. Just service it regularly. And take the nesecairy steps to preserve the turbo. All the best!

Also what are your plans for the car? The 150kw version is better for modding. And the auto is a no no for modding. Not even a remap.

From my understanding the GM gearbox (the autotragic in the 330d) is rated to 390nm of torque and the car pushes 390 from stock... sooo you can see why these boxes tend to break...

Just want to use it for getting to work and back.Im currently driving a 2007 Ford Ranger Double Cab that im going to trade in on the car.I miss all the bells and whistle and occasionally the speed. But I dont want to get something that I might spend more money than what I have

Well

I took my 530d apart over the last couple of days, and I will post some pics when I get a gap.

You should see what this car looks like at 243k on the clock....

A well maintained diesel at the right price you CANNOT go wrong with...

Ok So I took the 330d for a test drive. The only problem is I took a 320D for a test drive yesterday and it was almost as if the 320D impressed me more than the 330d.Your thoughts?

Specially when the 320 was in sport compared to the 330(as if there was no difference in the 330)
