330D Weird Problem

Hi guys
I have a weird problem with my 330D

Took it to 2 different people to check for error codes and only the glow plugs came out with errors.

Its has new injectors, all new vacuum pipes.

It is a automatic.
Tested with a new MAF and still did the same.

The problem is when I floor it its dead below 2500rpm and then starts to stutter feels like running on 5cylinders and black smoke, I lift my foot 1cm of the accel and floor it again and all the power is there.

when I put it in 1st and gradually accelerate it feels like something frees up at 2500 rpm and I can feel the power.

any ideas?

Regards

I suspect sticky vnt actuator on the turbo. Andy or Netercol might have more insight on this. I'm sure they will respond soon what year model is your 330d? I believe that injectors have to be calibrated.

Hi

It is a 2003 e46 330D

The injectors was done by Bosch and calibrated.

If I start the car, how fast should the actuator move? it takes about 3sec to move from top to bottom

No idea but 3 seconds sounds really long. What's the Kms on the engine? Was the turbo ever replaced? Do u still have the cats in place? Did u check the sesnor at the back of the intake manifold that maybe loose? Oh I still don't see that introduction thread of yours yet.

Hmmmm starting to sound more and more like the actuator. Andys E46 had a sticky actuator I'm not mistaken

If it's the turbo, you'd have plenty of white/blue smoke :fencelook:

Glad to hear the flaps are out

Sounds like a vacuum leak or something to me?

Same thing happened to me minus the stutter and it was the EGR seal...

Hopefully its not the turbo...

Actually, DieselFan may be right. Remove the EGR, clean with petrol and rinse off, then refit but disable by pulling the vacuum pipe off of it, and then block off the vacuum pipe. See if this makes any difference.

Oh yes I forgot to mention that the egr is blanked off, all the small vacuum pipes is replaced and I removed and checked the big ones that is connected to the intercooler both of them is still fine. One guy told me that is can be the fuel pressure convertor that is doing that.
Fuel filter, oil filter and air cleaner is replaced.

Even with it blanked off I would think the seal could still leak.

Check for black stuff on the engine overs, if its the egr seal you'll probably have soot on them somewhere.

I'm not an engine guru, actually far from one, but could it be caused by a faulty or blocked fuel pump? Perhaps worth getting it removed and checked?

I'm also not, but why not take your car to some one who actually knows what the heck he's doing? And not just to read the codes... Although there probably aren't many BMW specialists in klerksdorp :sorry:

Hope you come right. I know my mechanic would have found the problem quick sticks.

I was just about to ask if you guys maybe knows who can help in Klerksdorp
Do you think it would be wise to take it to Daly BMW?
The one guy told me it is sticky turbo veins and I can leave the car by him for 1 day and he will clean some valve and see if it works better.

Guys i have another question.

If i remove the vacuum pipe that goes into the vacuum bottle the actuator comes back to the top, if i put it back on the actuator goes down and i hear ssshhhhhh, am i suppose to hear that or is it suppose to be quite?

Cant help you with the turbo, but taking the car to BMW is going to cost you a lot. But they should know what's going on.

Sorry I'm not much help.
