Good day my fellow fanatics,
I have a problem with my e46 330d. Bought an import motor 3 months ago with 88 000 killos, fitted it and everything worked fine except the loss of power it had and the turbo that cuts out after 2500rpm-3100rpms, Serviced it 5000 killos ago. My fuel consumption is now at 8.7 L/100km which I don't know if its good as for the average consumption for this specific model must be around 9.2 L/100km, I don't know whether i must be worried or be happy, even though I'm saving some fuel

That fuel consumption is way too high. I hoon mine around every time I drive it and am sitting on 6.1 l/100km and that is sitting in traffic too.

Are you getting any smoke out the back? There are many placed the 330d can lose power and cause high fuel consumption. You need to go through each piece of the puzzle.

Check injectors, exhaust manifold, turbo, boost pipes, intercooler and especially the vacuum system. From what you describe, I would look at the vacuum pipes first.

Don't be bothered about mileage, it's all about how the engine has been treated during it's life. Some engines with 300k+ run better than engines with less than 100k. My engine has over 280k kms and is still sweet as a nut.

F30 330d owners get low 6l/100km when driving nicely, so how certain are you that the 6.1l/100km on your car is accurate, especially when "hooning" in traffic? That means you get close to 1000km on a 60l tank?

An F30 320d will get mid to high 5l/100km in town, so your consumption just seems way off...

I know my 330d drops into 5l/100km on the open road, but in town I'll more than likely not touch 6s. Not a single person on this forum has reported consumption anywhere near yours in the conditions you're mentioning..

I drive around 5kms in traffic, then 20kms open road light traffic and then into traffic for another 7kms. What can I tell you. I filled R500, have done over 400kms and range is still reading over 300kms. Tank was just under 3/4 when I started off and range was reading over 800kms. I have been using it to the factory and back while the Jeep was in the shop. Worst I have seen driving in town all the time and short trips was just over 8l/100km. Open road trip sitting at around the speed limit, I end up with just over 5. I've been amazed at the consumption myself.

I didn't say sitting in traffic all the time.....

That's good consumption you're getting there nonetheless..

Town driving and traffic does raise the fuel consumption quite significantly over open road driving.

The OP fuel consumption is actually pretty close to normal for traffic conditions. If it's open road consumption it's definitely too high. Auto vs manual also makes a major difference on the E46 330d from what I have read.

I was thinking about that just now. He didn't specify what driving conditions those were, just looking at those numbers seemed very high compared to my experience. My car is manual which I am sure also makes a difference. The problem I have with my car is that driving it is so addictive, hard to stay off boost too.:smilebounce:

You have a boost leak. My car cuts power also after 2500rpm and the fuel consumption is about what you are getting. i know my car has a boost leak. The best way for you to find it is to remove both boost pipes and intercooler. Fill the intercooler with hot water and check if any drips out. Look for oil sweat on the connectors of boost pipes or cracks on the rubber pieces. If all is fine then check exhaust manifold. Look around the exhaust manifold for evidence of soot. You can remove wiper washer bottle and see under if its black. If that is fine remove intake manifold and look for cracks and check the seals are all good. While you at it sort out the vacuum hoses.

There are quite a few e46 330d manuals that get that. I get 7.5 town driving only. Combined I get about 6.3

The reason I bought one was because of my buddy Rhett. He reset his consumption and hooned it on a 8km trip. Town driving. The last 600m he had to coast because of traffic. He got 9.8. I know how rhett drives. When he says he hoons it, he really does. Wheel spin launches and everything.

I feel kinda jealous reading this. I get about 12 in my petrol equivalent driving conservatively :blueCry:
