330d E90 Inspection

Hi guys

I recently purchased a e90 330d from a dealership. Car seemed to be in fairly good condition and with low km.

I drove down to Kruger Park over the weekend to find the shocks are completely worn (not the best of things to discover at 220km/h).

Secondly I suspect the turbo is faulty. I drove a Polo TDi and had the turbo replaced due to the fact that the impeller blade was damaged.

It had a distinctive "siren" sound to it. Same with this 330d.

According to the dealership Bosch did a full inspection and found nothing wrong with the vehicle, including the shocks.

To which reputable workshop can I take the vehicle where they will be able to give me a printed report of the status of the turbo?

Bragging about breaking the law and putting others at risk is not something we must take lightly.....

I suggest you take the car to an independent place, have it checked out, and take it back to the dealer to fix what is wrong.

If you tell them you drove at 220km/h, they might just tell you to get lost.

go to a independent roadworthy centre and tell them you just bought the car and to give a once over.

Wow so proud to be part of a community where no one exceeds the speed limit :clapper:

To OP, as sugested, get an independent "approved" center to test the vehicle :coolShake:

Thank you guys.

I will be taking the vehicle to a Bosch Service Centre, whom will remove the turbo and send it to an independent turbo company.

Also, just for interest. Any reputable BMW tuners? I had RK Motion on my TDi. Just want to see if I can't get better better fuel consumption.

You driving a 330d, you should be getting the best of both worlds

Speed limit at 120km/h should yield you around 4 - 5L/100km and not racing the robot to robot should also yield you around the 8 - 9 L/100km mark.

Dont think you will ever see beter than this, keep in mind I have the N/A and it does 10 - 12L/100km in traffic and 7 - 8L/100km on the freeway.

You can however increase the performance of the car, dont think that is gonna work for fuel economy

I suppose I have to change my mindset regarding the fuel consumption.

On a good day I got my Polo down to 3.6L/100km on the freeway.

I drive to Jo'burg and back on weekdays on the M1 and as you guys know it is usually bumper to bumper.

I'm happy with the Fuel Consumption on the Freeway in the 330d.

Also planning on keeping it stock. Any idea if removing the catalytic will be of any benefit?

See the problem with these e90's is the weight works against us, we like almost 2ton that needs to be moved.

Yes on the 1st month I got my car I was seeing 15-17L/100km and was shocked. But I was pushing this car in every gear cause it just revs and goes. I had to change my habits first and then saw my car's fuel economy improves.

Put it this way, if on a week of okish driving, no spirit driving, no angry for stupid drivers or anything just minding my own business I can get almost 9.2L/100km on the same road I travel daily to work. That same road I am doing 11L/100km now with some little spirit driving, I had being stuck in traffic when passing the jail in pretoria onto the N14, some people shouldnt have gotten their drivers.

But yes, it is all depending on your right foot.

Dont remove it if not needed. You can remove it but then you need to DP, software and something else to see benefits. But yes then that car turns into a monster, some have managed to get the 500Nm that you currently pushing (wish this n/a did that) to over 700+Nm with just these mods, they are expensive but something to invest in. Google it here in the forums and you will see that
