Hi Guys, there alot of talk about the butterfly valves of the 330d breaking and scewing up the entire engine models up to 2006. BMW reinforced them after 2006 to rectify the problem. Apparently people are removing them and then blocking off the holes with a blank plate.People are buying the blank plates of a website called PMW in the UK. google pmw blank plates. A local guy in the forum Barkie also suffered this problem.

The costs of repairs are far more then to just remove the butterflys, some people have even said they had to replace the entire engine.Apparently there is no difference to the car once you remove the butterflys, other than peace of mind i guess.

How many of you guys have done this or know where to get this done in Cape Town?? or how many of you have suffered the same problem???

Hi mate, just to let you know, i spoke to my mech today and sent the car in. He is well aware of the 330d problem with the flaps and told me of another 330d that he had to replace the engine on, cylinder and piston got fried. he says he definitly would recommend taken off the flaps. So he will be doing that for me, should be getting my car back during the week, will let you know how it runs.
