hi all, or should I say BMW fanatics.

I have been contemplating buying the 330d (2012-2016),M-sport (cause it looks so dope) I have done basic research on costs vs performance and overall value for money and I think its a decent buy.
I have asked the dealers and sales people about maintenance and parts, also their mechanics and I get generic responses like "it ok", "not pricey" obvious sale person talks,
my post to the forum, can anyone guide me in the direction to find approximate costing and information of the following:
1. maintenance costs,
2. the big costs after warranty,
3. common /known factory faults that creep in during the first 5 years and after 5 years eg. clutch gives out early or lubrication problem
4. real consumption figure achieved (work and back) and long distance (i.e. jhb to durban and back)
5. how much of a difference do run flat actually make on this car?
6. which extras are just gimmicks as compared usable ones?
7. what does the motor plan actually cover?
in short any information the dealers don't want you to hear when making a +/- R500k purchase. I plan on keeping for at least 8years.

thanks

If you spending R500k I’m sure you will be getting one with a couple of years of Mplan left at least.
So in that regard you are quite safe on maintenance and if something does have to go pop.
Runflats are crappy, but you can change to normal after Mplan.
I am not to clued up on the 330ds , but from what I learnt , they are pretty reliable and the power vs the consumption is remarkable.
If I were you , please do op for the Auto, as it is quite a gem in the F30.

I just sold my 330D last week. Was a great car but make sure you can live with the ride height. Its pretty darn low to the ground with the m-sport pack. I also had the front lip which compounded the problem.

Overall, power was fantastic (its definitely quicker than a Golf 7 GTI), fuel economy was stupidly low... in fact, lower than my friend's 2014 polo 1.6tdi.

Mechanically it was bullet proof, but there were quite a few creaks and rattles in the cabin. Service costs are pretty ok too... i had mine serviced a month ago and motorplan was billed R3.5k which included pollen filter plus one or two other items not normally required at every service. So I doubt it will ever break the bank. Gearbox on the 330d is also bullet proof, as is that motor. There's no known major issues that have been commonly found.

I'd say you have nothing to be concerned about really. As with anything BMW though, they will depreciate quickly. But if you keep the car for 8 years, thats not too big an issue. I typically change cars every 18 months or so... so in my case, depreciation can hurt.

Open road. I get 4.8l/100km to PMB. Would be less than that all the way to Durbs. Polo was 5.3l/100km at an average speed of about 115km/h or so.

Buy this car. It is mind blowing. If u r keeping for 8 years and consider the consumption u get for the performance. 330d is a beauty!
