I just picked myself up from the floor to post this!

Some bmw repair shop told me that there is no cheaper alternative for break pad and discs for my 2001 330ci. According to them the brake pads and discs will cometo R7000..

any advice besides sell a kidney?

:biglol: Go to Midas and get ATE discs and pads, you will pay in the region of R2000 for the complete set front and rear. Then fit it yourself, its a piece of piss.

ATE is OEM... so what are they fitting that costs so much?

parts = R3000 max (with mark up)
labour = 1500 max (5 hours @ R300)

total = 4500...

now how can they charge double on an already expensive quote...

Or you can look for a Ferro Brake in your region. Me, my boss, and colleague have used them here in Somerset West and so far they've charged like half what the dealers charge for the same work and parts.

Its odd, because when you looking for OEM floating the dealer is the cheapest out of everyone.

Prices from BMWSA are just all over. I just had my radiator replaced. Needed to change a long expansion vent plastic pipe with many inticate bends in to it fit neatly into the engine bay. R118

Then a non descript 2 inch 8mmx13mm generic rubber hose = R460

WTF?!

Wow thats way too much.

I called AutoBahn Bmw parts division now to price for my E46 325i

2004 Bmw 325i E46
Front discs 511 x2 = R1022
Front Pads set = R882.58
Front Sensor = R186.09

Rear Disc 429.96x2 = R859.92
Rear Pad Set = R767.12
Rear Sensor = R195.30
Total = R3913.01

Inclu Vat = R4460

If they quoted you R7000, thats like R2500odd for Labour..

Had the same experience with my Navara this week... Oil Service R3800 plus Front Brakes R5260...

Phoned Midas... THE WHOLE SERVICE KIT including the brakes with new discs and pads... R1206... And this is for ATE pads and discs PLUS it includes good quality Castrol oil.

That is a saving of R7854 if I DIY... which I'm going to do this weekend. Even If I ad a case of beer its still worth it to DIY...

What I'm trying to say is, these guys are ripping you off.

:argh:

lets just say they are in Rossburgh,Durban...very close to the BMW supertech.

the dude told me that for the 330ci you have to buy originals from the dealer. Even if that was the price with labour they can go f*** themselves.

I also asked about balljoints and was quoted R8500 brandnew with fitting or "R3500 reconditioned with fitting"

The funny thing is my dad is a mechanic and I've grown up with fixing cars but just not bmws. I made a call to township motorspares and got the Discs (all four) for R1140. The pads will come to about R800 - Ferrodo.

Can anyone reccomend an HONEST bmw mechanic in Durban?

I had to replace all my 330d's pads and disks recently.
I paid about R4500, including labour.
Mind you, I did get a bit of a discount since I know the owner of the shop.
