racechrono will give you ballpark estimations. this is because the GPS recievers in these phones are 10meter accurate, compared to something like vbox which is >1m, with many more data recording points

still fun though :)

My phones GPS says accurate to 2m? But anyhow, racechrono for my blue car...

0-20kph - 1.5s
0-60kph - 3.23s
0-100kph - 4.537s

So, it looks a bit optimistic, and must be an approximate figure.

I'm in cape town ;)

gandalf, I think something went wrong there between 80-120, that is serious acceleration that yoy clocked there.

Yup... me thinks so too.. :flyfun: What device are you running RaceChrono on, and where do you keep it on your runs?

Nokia E72, secured in a cradle stuck to the inside of the windscreen.

hmmm.. need to find a cradle  Have my Vivaz lying on the ashtray behind the gear lever. Perhaps a bit far down.. :flyfun:

I'll racechrono mine tomorrow and let you know.

So far I have only done 1/8th mile in 10.5 seconds at 116kph.

My best 0-100kph so far is 7.6 seconds.

That is pretty good , fastest I got on my 325i E46 was 7.2 seconds .

Sad that the new BMW's will whip us with their turbo technology

True they will whip us.....but is sad that only the 335i will be a six cylinder, everything else below will be 4!!

CAR magazine did a full test on the 328i 5 speed manual in December 1995 and from that test the following performance figures.
Maximum speed - True=234km/h Speedo reading - 243km/h
Accelleration km/h - 0-60 = 3.59 secs
0-80 = 5.15 secs
0-100 = 7.19 secs
0-120 = 9.95 secs
1 km = 27.62 @ terminal speed 191.8 km/h
Overtaking Accelleration 3rd 4th 5th gear
40-60 2.94 4.44 6.13
60-80 2.82 4.14 5.28
80-100 2.53 4.02 5.58
100-120 2.88 4.14 5.28
120-140 3.42 4.08 6.18

Hope this helps.
I had one of them. Unreal performance especially on the highveld when most cars have a drop in performance this BM can out perform faster cars. Must have been the advanced Vanos on those engines.

If you got a copy of this, please please pleeeeeease scan and post it up

Has anybody got real world quarter mile times for the e36 328i? I've seen the bmw quoted numbers but nothing else really that helps me. This is literally for an argument's sake.

Back in the day I seen a few stock ones run between 15.7-15.9 @ wesbank. I had a 1998 323i (M52) E36 with software and Xhaust , and I could only manage 16.1 flat here at the reef.

So a decently running 328i should be running mid 15 to low 16 second quarter mile runs here at the reef and about 7.5 second 0-100 times?

For cars that are 15-20 years old that is very impressive! BMW FTW!

@ Ooompie, please hook us up with that car review
@ freerider, can't wait to see what the difference is that the diff makes to your car!

For the Android guys, I've been using the Ulysse Speedometer app. It detects when you stop and resets your sprint times. Also logs your max speed over the journey and some other bits of info.

Did a run with it yesterday and was pretty impressed with this little app.
