hey guys,

i have a '96 e36 328i, on most occassions wen i wanna open her up, she climbs beautifully til 4000rpm, then she has this hesitation n sometimes boggin where the needle just sits at 4500rpm n stares u down until u shift..:cursin:

drives me crazy..but its like a tempremental issue..coz if u cruisin in 1st an sometimes 2nd just over the 4000rpm n whack it, she awakens :excited: n the needle flies to 6500rpm n then every shift in vanos is a dream come true:)..

i have no clue whether it's a timin issue, or a vanos problem..but i have checked my airflow..another possible issue could b the coils, havent had a chance to really get stuck under the hood..that electric fan sounds like a good idea, coz the clutch is finished...pleas guys if u have any info, would b greatly appreciated...

you'll have to do some faultfinding, but i doubt it is the ignition coils. They will make the engine sound like it's missing. Any of that?

Could be a sensor(s), or easily any of the items that you mentioned.

Easiest way is to pop past someone with a diag computer and plug it in, see if you can get any error codes, that should give you a clue.

You say its temp related as well, hot/cold ?

Could easily be a coil, or I am suspecting fuel pressure/filter here as well.

I dont think its really timing, unless a tooth was skipped somewhere along the line, but then you should have that throughout the entire rev range, not just when she warms up or something, but Im only guessing here

now that u mention fuel pressure, i know i'm not suppose, but as soon as the reserve comes up...then she is more likely to run, which makes me wonder if she's not burning too rich...would could retard the vanos...so timing is eliminated, thanx...cooler nights, she is likely to respond better however u stil have this nightmare...ricky, im gonna take u up on the advice n let u know wot codes she throws..thanx guys

should just clean the injectors, and change the filter.. wot bout blankin the fuel pressure regulator??? any good on these models...on my e30 it was a quick n simple mod, atomisin of fuel was so crazy that lsd would break loose in a freakin automatic..

Check for torn intake hoses or boots. Small cracks can turn bigger under heavy acceleration.

Air sound? Oil sperator valvue or IDLING control valve, Broken boot, failed intake manifold gasket.

IF the sound is fixed & the car still does what it does (struggles to accelarate & just suddenly "fly")

Let them then check the CAM POSITION SENSOR & the KNOCK SENSORS on the side. I had similar issues.
