OK, now diesels go at 15000km intervals. I did my Inspection 2 last week at SMG Cape Town and it came to R1600. Not bad considering that parts alone would be R1200 if you did it yourself.

As far as tweaking of electricals, unless you have some glitches, then there it nothing that the dealership do except reset the service indidator (which you can also do yourself...;))

The big problem with a 320d though, is that whe you do want to trade, and you dont have a complete FSH, they will immediately try and rip you off for another 10-20k odd.

I also bought mine for R185k in 2005 and traded it in for R90k (best offer of LOADS) in 2007 :(

Funny how motor dealers have selective memory! They don't want to pay for used BMW 320d, because some of the very first models gave turbo and transmission problems. Since then, BMW have sorted the problem out, but that still sticks in every dealer's memory, that the BMW 320d is a problem car! Their usual retort, after offering you R20K below book is:" People are scared to buy used diesel BMW's because the turbo gives problems...." Fcuk that, sh1t! They all want to steal your car, just to sell it at a moerse profit to the next guy! Car dealers are a bunch of fcuking SHARKS, let me tell you! Mine was on Motorplan until 100K and they replaced the turbo at 70K, as a precautionary measure, with an updated spec turbo. In the dealer's mind, that does not count! I say FCUK'EM!

Have been offered a 2003 320D 124,000km for R90,000. The car has had 2 turbo changes since new. Do I buy it or hang around for a fuel engined BMW?

ntflyboy, I see you found this thread. You will have to go for at least a 325i to get the driving pleasure of the 320d. The 318i just won't cut it. The 325's are also beginning to run in the R100k range, so it comes down to your taste. I enjoy my 320diesel for the massive amounts of torque when I'm towing a trailer.
