320d transplant in a 318Ti??

Hi guys

Please tell me if I'm being silly, dumb and stupid here.

We bought my wife a 2004 318Ti Sportpack in January, now, the body and interior are in excellent condition, but it used quite a lot of oil, is underpowered and on the long road the revs are too high to my liking. (has 223 000km)

Now, since the beginning I thought, it will be such a lovely, nice looking car, with a diesel engine.

Say for instance I can buy a E46 320d thats mechanically good, but body and interior wise not so good, and want to have everything build over, basically all the mecanicals of the diesel built into the Ti body.

Will everything be a straight fit? As both are E46, dont know if the Ti's wheelbase are shorter?

I know it wont make financially sense to do this, but I dont want to get rid of the Ti, as I love the looks, and you dont see many of the Sportpacks around.
And at the end of the day I will have a E46 sedan body, a 318i enginge (needs valve stem seals) gearbox, diff and all the other 318 stuff that I can perhaps sell again

Because Diesel Power!

Of course ja, since my first E90 320d, now at my 3rd one, Im just addicted to the torque

Do somebody perhaps know in terms of labour, what such a transplant will cost more or less, if I get a mechanically decent donor E46 sedan, as its a shitload of work I think.

Do it ! But use a 330d or you wasting time

+100

Definitely possible, why a diesel though? A 330i transplant would be perfect IMO.

Because doing a petrol swop has been done before, a diesel Ti would be awesome, a tuned 330d ti will make more torque than an M could dream of not to mention high kw numbers.

Not to mention that it would be unique and damn fast.

Option 1 - rebuild the engine and you won't have headaches of putting it back together and it will be reliable.
Option 2 - buy a import engine and keep old engine for spares
Option 3 - what you are suggesting, just make sure you have lots of money and patience with things that don't fit and custom brackets etc. Along think about how long it will take to start it's duty as a reliable daily after the diesel conversion?

Think I've come to my senses for now, going to have the valve stem seals done, and the oil leak,(this is the first of the 16 BMW's I had that spil oil on my garage floor) and maybe the gear lever bushes, because theres nothing else wrong with it, for now, just had this crazy idea for a few hours:roflol:

Wife can drive her Ti, and I will drive my 320d
