As a general rule.
by what sort of mileage should you have this replaced as preventative maintenance?
I'm on 105000km now, car is certainly fine and I average 6.8l/100km most in stop go traffic.
but would really want to get this done as it seems its quite a common issue on the 320d.

also what would an OEM part cost?

I think it's more an age issue than a mileage issue. If the car is more than 8 years old, just replace it.

The OEM part is around R7000 excluding fitment, last time I replaced one, but word has it that they have/had a special on them.

Ross Duncan quoted me R6500 for the OEM part, FITTED about 6 weeks ago. Thats for a LCI 320d.

Did/Do you ever check it? Aren't you afraid of getting stuck on the side of the road?

I think that fear is overcome by the fear of mechanical failure during work (in the air), rather than when getting to and from work (on the road)

Lol, good one sash

Both mine on the 320d and 330d went around 120k to 140k kms. Both happened when I started the engine. I'd just inspect if now and then. If the rubber has cracks then replace it.

Hi Cornel ,

yes mine made a funny squeaky noise when i switch off the car very distinctive sound but also could have been my tensioner cause i replace that along with the pulley

Hi Guys
Mine has a squeaky sound on idle and driving
Is that the tensioner ?
I replaced the belt, but not the tensioner as Bmw did not have stock.

I had the same squeaky sound. At first, I thought that it was the tensioner and belt. It turned out to be the water pump which failed eventually. After changing it I haven't had any issues.

It can be a range of pulleys, including the damper pulley. Get a proper diagnosis done, prior to replacing parts left right and center. in my case both my damper pulley and powersteering pulley was moeg

Sometimes in the morning on cold starts I also get squicky noises, but as soon as she is warm the noises go away!
