320d power problem story

My 2001 320d lost power while driving felt like there was no turbo. I booked it into BMW and I was told the its the turbo , mass air sensor and a few other things like the EGR pipe is leaking, got a R30k quote. I then took my car to alpine turbo for a second opinion. They quickly told me my turbo is in excellent condition and found the real problem.
My Catalytic converters where blocked. So once removed my power was better than ever.:=):

Well done Alpine turbos. I cant believe what crooks BMW are.

Dude...talk to the DP and tell him your story. Also talk to the Service Manager and ask him why BMW could not correctly diagnose the problem. I would love to hear what they have to say.

Why would you "Suddenly" loose power from a blocked cat? that should happen over time and surely wouldnt cause it to die like that.

They were always partily blocked but a guess there was enough pressure for the turbo to work or a sensor to be happy?. I guess it just got to a point where there was just to much.. im no expert. but i saw the cats once they were removed they where clogged up nicley. i already have noticed that my fuel consumption has drop to better than ever. So my car was always working hard than it needed to.

Im waiting for a response from BMW.

I suggest that you dont hold your breath.

I had the first cat (Closest to the turbo) removed last week when my car went in for other problems and it is going like a bloody train at the moment. Removing it did make a hell of a difference to the power its putting down.

Which BMW dealership is this? And yes you should speak to the Service Manager and find out how the HELL a quote of 30k could have been given to you and be incorrect as well.

Hi Jerry Gp

glad to hear your story as a lot of guys get ripped another @#$#$ by the so called agents:clapper:
Just out of curiosity I drive an E90 320d auto 2005 model & according to my mechanic the turbo needs to be serviced BUT he doesn't do turbos ,I see you mentioned that you used 'alpine turbos'
Is there anyone in cape town that the guys can recommend that i take my car to as i prefer to have someone recommended than just to go to anyone who has ' we do turbos "on their signs
