Hi all

If you were given the option what would you choose?

I understand there's 2 doors vs 4.

any other differences?

F30 has more space, has a bigger market for resale and may (depending on spec and requirement) be better equipped. The HK sound system for example is better in the 3 than in the 2, auto aircon is standard in the 320d and a ~R8000 option on the entire 2 series and some options like Heads Up Display is not available at all on the 2 series.

The F22 is lighter/more agile than the F30 and certainly less common / more rare than the 3 series. It's also (depending on specs) around R40k cheaper than the 320d. You can get into the 230i for about the same price as the 320d. Please don't take it the wrong way, but coupes are usually associated with being sporty and (as GREAT an engine as the B47 is) a petrol engine may be the better way to go for a coupe.

Try and drive or, at the very least, sit in both (as close as in the spec/ price level that you would be interested in) and make up your mind from there.

The 220d with sport kit has my vote. 3 series is rather common these days. Unless you have a family you need to cart around the 2 series is the way

Something else that you may want to consider is that the F30 is being replaced next year by the G20 while the F22 will probably only be replaced in 2020/2021 if it follows the normal 7 year cycle.

like for like
same year model with same mileage the 220d will be a lot more expensive as well. and I mean a lot..

Eg: a 2014 220d with 50000km R420,000
2014 320d with 4x000km R320,000

both white , M sport with auto box.
also as above. relatively 220d might depreciate more and will be harder to sell.
insurance will also be higher.

this was the issue I had when looking for a 2012 E82 120d , I chose a 2011 E90 320d instead and got me a coupe after that.
