Hi guys

I tried to explain this noise to the dealer the last time the car was booked in. They said afterwards that it is nothing to worry about but I am not convinced.

The noise I refer to is the high pitched noise, almost like a small bell being striked very quickly.

Please look at the link below and share your ideas.

Thanks

Is it coming from the front of the front of the engine? Where the belts are?

Could be a seized pulley that the belt is slipping over :dunno:

1)Alternator bearing
2)Aircon unit
3)Power steering pump
4)Idler pulley bearing

quick way of finding out, get some Q20 lubricant spray with the thin nozzle extension, so that you can accurately direct the spray.

Spray at the offending area accurately, when the sound stops, there is your problem.
If the sound doesn't stop then its an internal failure about to happen in either the steering pump/aircon/alternator

from my own experience, the idler pulley bearings are usually the first items to go

Thanks guys

I'll go to the dealer with this information, hopefully they will attend to it better this time.

My ex 120d used to do that, dealers had no idea what the problem was and messed me around for a very long time. Turned out being the vibration dampener (crank pulley), exactly the same sound as your video clip
