320d nearing end of motorplan...

Hi Guys

I am thinking well in advance now, but I would like to get your 2 cents on the following.

My 2011 320d Msport is currently sitting on 72 000 KM, by the rate I am going I will reach 100 000km next year March/April...

I bought her when she had 30 000km on the clock.

1. Should one extend the MP (I know it's a hefty price).
2. Trade her in for something else which is still under motorplan?
OR (the real question which I am curious about).
3. Keep the baby and drive her until 200 000km AS nothing major will go wrong, due to the engines being top class?

So far everything seems fine with her - how many problems do the 320d start giving after 100 000KM? Will I take a chance or is it safe to continue driving her for the next 5 or so years?

Thanks in advance

Howzit bud.

Not saying this will happen but most likely too.
Turbo failure is generally up around 200k km.
If you decide to keep the car, I am sure you will qualify for a good warranty on your car. So take a good Vehicle Warranty Plan out which should cover most of the repairs.

P.S. My car is on 256 000km and had turbo failure around 190 000km. No issues on her other than that.

Mine is a 2006, currently on 262000km. Nothing major replaced, just normal servicing.

Still has original turbo.

As far as my experience regarding 320d's stretch I would not even hesitate keeping it. My e46 320d (my second one) is currently sitting on 240 000 km and still on the first turbo. Even replacing it would cost around R7500-R8500 (non-OEM of course),which isn't a patch on what a MP extension will cost. E90s seem to be less prone to problems aswell seeing as there are no EGR etc which tend to cause problems on the e46's.

Moral of the story - great car, KEEP ON ENJOYING IT.

My girlfriends mothers 2006 E90 320D is on 320000KM, on her second turbo and third clutch. She drove from Pretoria to Nelspruit and back everyday for 3 months, now from PTA to JHB for the last 4 years, and to Cape Town for holiday once every year in December.

Thanks guys!

I simply love this car! And hearing your feedback on the quality and support makes me comfortable and happy!

It provided some kind of relaxed feeling that I don't need to worry (besides the services and TLC)!

Love this community and prompt feedback and advice offered!
Grateful!

what I would do.....
forget motorplan, and enjoy driving the car to about 240 000kms.
Sure once in a blue moon something will need to be replaced, but im certain it works out less annually than any motor plan extension.

I drive my e46 318i from 117 000 (I got her) to 235 000. I sold her after the expansion bottle blew up. replaced clutch once...window mechanisms about 7 times (e46 thing) other than that all repairs were general or wear etc.
I cant think the e90 cant be as good

Garret is oem or mitsubishi. Don't really know what turbo the e46 320d uses. But it's oem just doesn't have bmw branding

DieselFan, as far as I know e46 also uses Garrett. Bmw just charge quite alot more than garrett themselves.

Yes but I wasnt sure because the E90 320d uses both the Mitsubishi and garret. All I was saying was just because its not bought from BMW doesn't make it non-oem.

If you want piece of mind, take out extended motor plan. Still beats taking out repayments over 60 or 72 months. If youre a gambler, skip the motor plan and expect to do the odd bits. As the guys have said, turbos tend to go around 200k range. Good cars!!!

Hey man, I also have a 2011 320d and motor plan is coming to an end sometime next year.

After doing some proper research I'm going for option 3.

MP extention is way to expensive, I'm rather putting some cash aside each month should the turbo pop. Other that that om just giving her the required services and TLC.

Unless you bought a problematic car, the E90 is generally rock solid.

When it comes to the time for replacing your Turbo then chat with Turbo Direct. They're the Garrett importer for SA. You'll get the PROPER brand spanking new turbo for your car a HELL of a lot cheaper than BMW will charge you

gt2260v turbo at Turbo Direct cost me R13070 incl vat 3 months back. FYI. Dunno what turbo the 320d uses, i presume gt2256.

i"m in the same boat as you
i have a 2011 bmw mpack 320d
Bought her with 10 000km and never looked back.
I am now on 73 000km and got a quote of R27 000 exclud vat for 20 000km after 100 000 comes to an end.

they can finance it for you , how ever the repayments worked out to R850.00 more per month which does not make sense.

i will also be going after market warranty and keeping my car.

I've got a 2011 320D auto, took out a Prestige warranty with Standardbank for 7k or 299 pm for 2 years unlimited mileage. I'm currently sitting on 108k kms, I'm getting my steering rack changed (R9400) at BMW which Is within the cover limit (15k) :-D

Gents, it seems like most of us are in the same boat with MP expiring. I also want to go the after market plan, can someone possibly advise the various companies that can be contacted for these plans? what do these plans cover?
