Hi Guys,

I have a 2021 320d G20, looking at doing a carbon clean and software.

Which place would be the best to get this done?

If your ecu is manufacture date is >June 2020 the ecu needs to go to Femto Evo in Finland to be unlocked before we can tune it.

out of interest, why do you want to do carbon clean? My F30 320d is over 11 years old and still going strong with no signs that it needs carbon clean. Just curious to know the telltale signs to look out for

You will see why if you ever look at the EGR valve... Always best to clean all the 'carbon' off after deactivating EGR via software...

I was hoping for a response that doesn't require me to strip the car. I stand to be corrected, if EGR is blocked or has an issue, there will be a warning or an error pointing to the fact. There will be other signs telling you that you have an issue, high fuel consumption and loss of power maybe? I highly doubt a 2021 diesel car will have too much carbon build up to worry about. As I said, mine is over 11 years and I have not picked up any issue yet. @yasirm, if it aint broken, don't fix it. What is the mileage of your car? Rather get someone who can assist with borescope and check your combustion chambers to see if there is any carbon build up.

I previously had an issue with carbon build up on a 330d I had which costed me lots of money to sort out, so was just thinking of maybe doing a carbon clean on this car.

Will PM you the details of an innovative new carbon cleaning company - and will also ask the founder/owner of the company to contact the admins and consider posting here to explain how the cleaning process works.

Have you tried reaching out to Marchand at the carbon doctor if you are Jhb based?

I doubt in 5 years it would need to be cleaned . Rather do software and egr delete with blank plates.

I just completed a carbon clean last week on my 9yr old 140kkm mileage X5 F15 M50D (N57S) with Carbon Doctor in Constantia Kloof. I did the carbon clean because I had a problem with swirl flap mechanism which is a result of carbon buildup in these engines and this particular engine (tri-tubo) is very sensitive to any small malfunction. I have before and after pictures of the various affected components; intake ports, intake manifold, throttle body, etc. They were quite bad but I have seen worst at similar mileage.

I have two other 14yo 2.0D (f10 & f25) with 260kkm & 314kkm mileage and they have no sign of needing a carbon clean. Unless the car suffers from poor performance and higher fuel consumption I would not recommend a carbon clean as it has negligible benefit on the one turbo diesel engines without DPF, in my view. Does your car have DPF?

The car is stock, has BMW MPPK from new and now sitting at 180k km. I also use sasol 10ppm only and no additives
