Could the guys with the diesels help me out ?

Im curious to know what sort of mileage you get from a tank ?

Thanks

Hi lambchop...

Funny you should ask this question, my car is booked in right now at bmw. I have a 2007 320D with 90 000km and i am currently getting 550km to a tank... this is combined driving (no traffic at all) driving extremely carefull. They came back to me today and said that the oil separator and other air flow thing needs replacing. I hope this works cause aparently you are supposed to get close to 900km / tank

I Get:
500km only town driving, If I am late.
600km only town driving, when I am not late.
1000+km only highway, cruise control and national speed limit.

Even in bursts of hardest driving, I don't get worse than 9l/100km.

I suspect you could do much better, but it is insanely hard keeping the taps closed on a 320d... Especially the begining.

I have a 120d, with mixed driving, town and hi-way. I get 750km to a tank, but the 1 series only has a 50ltr tank. I think the 320d has 63ltr.

My dad also does mixed driving and he usually gets 900km - 1000km per tank. He has a 2006 320d.

550km in Town Driving
600km with my heavy foot on the National roads
850km with Cruise Control at Speed Limit

Dont read too much into my consumption figures as I drive my car hard

Hey guys I am new to this forum

I am about to order my 4th bmw I love these cars as specially the moter plan I currently have a 2006 323i and I am looking at buying a 2011 320d on the test drive it was awsome to drive so much power but I am concerned that this new model with all this power is going to be a gass guzzler but from the above posts its all about how you drive it

I currently get about 11 to 12 litres per 100 on my 323 which is flippen heavy and that is driving it nice if I don't drive it nice it will go up to 13 to 14 so I should expect some improvement

I see some of you got you 320d's chipped doesn't that void the motor plan and does it actually bring down the fuel consumption and bring up power significantly?

Hi, welcome to the forum.
Driving style does have an influence on the consumption, but compared head to head, driving like you were driving the 323i you will do much better in the diesel. You would even have better fuel consumption in a 200kw diesel vs a 100kw NA car, especially that six cylinder. My previous car had less power and less displacement and I averaged 14l/100km in traffic. Doing the same route with my 320d I get 8l/100km.

Fuel consumption is now less a function of power, and more a function of displacement. Just look at the new polo gti, its displacement went down (now a 1.4l) and power is up from the previous model. But fuel consumption has drastically improved.

Yeah I agree even the Mercs you have a nice 200 or 230 on a bagde and you actually driving a 1.6

What about chipping the car is it worth it and how does it affect the motor plan?

Any modification voids the motorplan, if they catch you. The best option is to get the power kit directly from bmw. It is expensive, but you keep your motorplan. It gets you 147kw and 420nm. They dont just do a remap, they replace some of the components that will reliably deliver those figures. I have a thread on this forum with details, but I am typing on my phone, so you can just do a quick search for 320d power kit. Hope this helps.
