320 F30 M/S shifter

Hi guys,

Something I thought I would ask the experts. If I switch the shifter to the left to put it in M/S mode but don't shift, does the car operate any differently?

Because I don't know, the car seems to be a lot more responsive. If I put it in eco pro in M/S mode, it just feels ... faster than if I put it in the normal auto mode (it's still in auto mode, when the shifter is to the left). I'm not engaging any manual shifting ... letting the transmission handle the gears etc.

So I don't know if it's just in my mind, or if the performance actually improves in that mode. Any thoughts?

Hey Bud! I assume you have the Sport transmission? M/S mode keeps the revs higher for longer so that is why it seems faster as well.

When you do shift manually on M/S it will be shift much more aggressively. Hope that helps! I keep mine is M/S when I enter traffic to force it to stay in 1/2 longer, I hate the constant up/down shift in traffic.

Hi cOIDFuSion

I have the normal non-sport F30. I was at SMG yesterday and the one foreman said that pushing the shifter to the left into M/S allow you to manually shift gears. Nothing more.

Something told me he was BSing me.

Up until yesterday I never drove the car with the shifter in that mode. It just feels a lot more lively, even in eco pro, which is usually a dog on most days! Keeping in mind I don't manually change gears either. I can only imagine what it will feel like in sport mode as well.

So do most of you guys drive with the shifter in M/S mode? Would it not ruin fuel consumption?
