Hi guys, I finally fixed the whistling+rough idle problem my car had! I replaced the crank breather valve, intake manifold gasket and the whole DISA unit $$$ but still the problem was there.. O.k so last week I took off the idle control valve, took the whole thing apart, cleaned it out fitted it back together and whoola!! the whistling noise was even louder then before:clap:
I did some hard researching on the ICV on the E36's and found out that they do create a whistling noise and rough idle due to adverse tolerances (wear between the valve itself and the plastic casing where it seals to, creating an internal vacuum leak) and it cannot be fixed, you have to replace it:bawling:
So I phoned the dealer the next day for a price on a new one and R2788.90 f*ck a duck!:spit: Luckily I found a newish one at a scrapyard yesterday that came of an E46 4cyl, it looked exactly the same but I was first a bit sceptic because the last 3 digits on the part number didnt match. Anyways, I bought it for R350 cleaned it out with carb cleaner and there, my car was idling again like it should, no whistle and no rough idle! Btw, I did notice that BMW made some changes to the casing on the inside, they've moulded a metal sleeve of some sort into the plactic where the previous ones tend to wear..:clap:
