318iS Disa valve

Anyone any knowledge of the Disa valve in the intake manifold? Apparantly it is there to close/open a flap in the intake manifold to boost torque at lower revs. My question is: my car has 309k km on the motor and i doubt if the motor has ever been opened, so i guess the disa valve is still the original. I am questioning if it is still functioning as it should and if there is any power to be gained by perhaps removing it altogether to smoothen the airflow at higher revs or fixing it if it is not working. (if it is not working then fixing it will hopefully/probably result in an increase in torque at lower revs (below 4800rpm)) Any advice?

if you find out the cost of fixing it let us know, always nice finding some more power!

im sure there must be a way to test to see if its working :) i would leave it in place... if there are any gains by removing it they will come at the expense of low RPM power...

its on the side of the manifold (passenger side)..the oil dipstick shares a bolt with it..it has three of them..they sometimes develop air leaks and cause bad idle as well..

Thanks Mo_s for the info! I removed mine to check if it is still functioning as it should and made a blanking plate out of an old number plate. Tested the valve and it is working fine (after 309k km's!) Here is a picture of the valve's innards.

OK, i know that the engine is not sparkling clean but as an excuse, i do not like to steamwash an engine due to the electronics.

Of topic but What are those ports f0r? the ones net to the fuse box?

Mr K, you have got me there, buddy. That is the cover to a nine point male plug with a triangular plastic centre, and i do not know what it is for. The plug to reset the service interval indicator sits on the other side of the engine, so that is not it. Maybe someone on the forum can help?

glad to help :)..I remember my disa valve had a hole in it and used to suck in air, so if you poured water over it it'd suck the water in and create white smoke..my mech found it that way by mistake, lol..oh those ports are where the wiring harness' connect..if you have an auto there would be 2 connections..in your case the ones not connected as it is a manual right?
