Guys, i am looking at buying a 1997 318is auto for my wife. What are your views/comments. Is the 4 speed auto gearbox in the E36 a good one? How will it affect the fuel consumption?
Had a look at one today with 185k km on the clock. Guy wants R45k but car needs some work on the boot and rear bumper (spoiler was removed and holes plugged but needs a new bootlid or good repair.)
Car has just had a major service (belts, hoses, discs, pads, radiator flush, driveshaft doughnut replaced, etc.,) cost about R9 500 at Bosch.
Driver seat tatty and the passenger seat is well worn but not torn. Everything works and car feels OK on the short drive i had. I think it will probably need some work on the suspension (bushes/ball joints) but not in the near future as there is a roadworthy certificate already (by the way are the roadworthies valid for 6 monts again??) What is a good price for both him and me keeping in mind that it is an auto and not too popular when trying to sell later on.

the price seems high for a e36, why dont you look at some pre fl e46's, they probably the best value-for-money bmw one can currently buy.
