I read somewhere they are marketing these to the taxi/ limo crowd. That is why the 5GT now comes out with a 2.0d.

Yuck all I can think of is that it looks like a Saab 900.............:yuck:

I think they wanted to make something similar to the A5 Sportback, but focused more on the practical and utility aspects of design, where the A5 is more low-slung with a lower roof line. All they managed to do is create a car that has a "a snake swallowed an egg" look
:thumbdo:

Absolutely terrible. It's clearly a product out of the marketing department. :shakehead:

Really don't know why BMW pursue this GT thing. The 5 GT failed, this looks more stretched than the 5 GT, so really what are the designers and MD's smoking.

The world doesn't need a premium wannabe MPV

From all the responses I've read elsewhere, the general opinion of this vehicle is, that it is hideous, surely when evaluating how a product looks, BMW do get opinions from random people to see if the styling is digestable. All this R&D, but yet it is definitely a laughable attempt to fool us, into thinking it is a GT, when it really is a 5 door hatch version of the 3series?

There is no Z4 M-Coupe
There is no M1 supercar
There is no M7
There is no M3 CSL

They rather come up with crap like this, than produce what the fans want(i.e. the above), what the F are they doing?

It's the Marketing department. They only want to produce cars that they can sell to the mainstream market. It's the only way I can think of how BMW can bring out something like the 1M and in the same breath design this. I would love to meet the idiots who said they want something like this.

I dont get it... What would the purpose of this car be...

GT stands for Grand Tourer...Theres nothing grand about that car... and how would that ugly rear end assist with a long trip except for making those following you throw up...

I always thought GT, Gran Turismo, means a 2 door, 2+2 seater, front engined, rear drive vehicle. Where does this 3ser GT, fit in with what the motoring world knows as a GT. A 6series or Maserati GT, are GT cars, they offer fast pace over long stretches, but are ultimately not mid engined supercars.

For BMW to stick a GT badge on a MPV or hatchback again, is really an insult to the motoring world, as all it is, is clever badging to create a sense of performance/style from the model-line. They trying to win buyers with a cool name attached to car which normally would be classified as a MPV or hatch. Because MPVs are seen as boring people movers, a GT moniker sounds nice and will add a bit of pizzaz, as GT sounds better than MPV/hatch, but highly irrelevant to the type of car.
