I think the recommended range is 205 (+/-10) for 7J. However, it also depends on the make of tyre, as the recommended range varies from brand to brand and type of tyre. Certain tyres have more "accomodating" sidewalls that can fit a wider profile of mags, while others do not. As an example, for a Toyo T1-R, the rim width range for 225/45/17 is 7.0-7.5-8.5 (where 7.5 is the recommended, but the others are allowed).

You would also need to check clearance on your car. Going a bit wider could mean your tyre rubbing on the internal arches.

My suggestion is to have a look at the tyre chart for the tyre you intend purchasing. It would have a range similar to the Toyo example I provided.
