2024/2025 M4 Comp - Akrapovic Exhaust Price?

Hi All :)

I hope you are all well - wondering if I could get some opinions on this

In a very brief summary - my friend and boss has just bought himself a new M4 Comp (its gorgeous and once he runs the engine in I'll beg him to let me abuse it a bit:ROFLMAO:)

But I just wanted to get some insight from you more experienced M Car Forum Members as pricing seems quite high to both he and I - he wanted to have BMW put a full Akrapovic exhaust System in and got a Quote from the BMW dealership he bought the car from and even with a supposed 10% Discount the total comes up to just over 300K incl VAT and labour

Does this price seem right to you guys? And if not, what would you have expected

Any advice or experience from y'all will be greatly appreciated and please let me know if you have any questions or info that you would perhaps need/

That may be the price, but its ludicrous to be honest and for 1 dont feel its worth that money. Wow....

Sounds about right according to this post.

Hi Spanky,

Thanks for the reply and info!

But the Salesperson claimed there's a 10% Discount on the pricing he received - and yet its still working out to around 11-12% of the Price of the Vehicle (as I believe Base X Drive M4 Coupe should be around R2.2M-2.3M) - while I'm sure he added extras surely that wouldn't add to the price of the exhaust?

Realistically, +- 10% of the Cars value for the Akrapovic exhaust sounds about right, which I expected - hence why I was personally quite shocked at the "discounted" price as I'm quite sure he didn't add R1M worth of extras 🤣

I am 100% with you there - I could molest the living daylights out of that car for that kind of money in my opinion

But he's very Pro BMW Motorplan approved which is why he buys brand new and I buy cars to Molest tbh 🤣

Quick one - based on my count $9511 (per Spankys Screenshot) + 20% import Tax on OEM Components = +-R210K for the exhaust and link pipe @18.4 ROE

So like 90K for labour after a supposed 10% discount ☠️☠️☠️ and like 120K before the discount🤣 absolutely ridiculous to me

Respect to you M Car owners with Akrapovic Exhausts for getting that much bank 🤣

There is a premium to retain your Motorplan and source these things through BMW/Porsche etc. If he had to call Langston he may well get a lower price for the exhaust. Whether you retain your plan or not when fitting it is another story as BMW has swayed with the wind on this over the years. There was a time when they were voiding (or threatening to void) F10 plans because they had Akra exhausts but they were not fitted by BMW.... this while fitting those same Akra exhausts themselves and allowing other owners to retain their plans :ROFLMAO:

I paid about R100K for the Akra Evolution Line exhaust for my F10 (which was at the time guys were claiming it was a R160K exhaust). Inflation adjusted that is about R160K. A new F90 titanium (non akrapovic) M Performance exhaust is about that... which sort of tracks. The thing didn't suddenly triple in price.

Whether it is worth it or not depends on the person and what they are after. I posted before about how copying the exhaust turn by turn and even trying to match the resonator design in SS didn't result in something sounding remotely similar and many F10 owners (some of them on here) ended up buying M Performance or Akrapovic anyway. Langston was coming to the party on pricing as well at the time.

R300K sounds WAY out personally. I would say Deago should quote and see what he comes out with... I am not sure how much more or less the trapezoid M performance exhaust would cost (which has a whole new diffuser section as well) or perhaps that is what they quoted on?

If you are after an exhaust that sounds louder than stock but more refined than the straight pipes/shop-made systems then there really isn't anything like it and that is the tax you pay in search of that specific kind of thing. The sound can't really be replicated (for anything made with Inconel or Titanium - not just Akrapovic). Personally, I wouldn't hesitate to buy an Akra exhaust (and it would be a big attraction if a car has one) in future. Whether 300K is worth it or not... well for me for a G80 it makes no sense. R200K sure... and that is really pushing it. I have had these now on my F10, F90 and my Alfa has Akra + a Novitec downpipe. There is a lot of money going towards the brand for these things and there should be no doubt about that, but you also aren't going to get exactly that build quality, sound and (lets face it) the dopamine hit of having a top tier item from anywhere else.

If anyone has priced the 'local' exhausts recently, the good ones not exactly cheap anymore and some (sorry) sound like absolute ASS.

To be honest, I was hoping you would pop up in this thread as I was quite interested to hear your opinion on this 😅 and you did not disappoint

Interestingly enough, he sold his 2019 Porche 911 Carrera GTS for this M4 Comp and I think he misses the sound of that, because it was honestly chest shakingly fantastic - not too sure if it had any exhaust mods but came with motorplan still and was sourced from Porsche

On the note of which he was quoted on, I'm not 100% sure as I saw the quote in passing as he was showing me pricing and asking if I thought that was right - but I will ask him to send it to me and update when I get it

While I do hear the cry of the having the top tier exhaust on a car like that, the price just seemed a little crazy from my side to be worth it but also your notes on the build quality, sound and dopamine rush are very true - I think his biggest thing is getting sound and aesthetic without voiding the motor plan - so thanks for the info as well on the potential for voiding should he get an Akrapovic but not have it installed by BMW

Personally, if I had endless money, I would probably consider the Adro Inc Wide Body Kit, Tune, Red DRLs and an Akrapovic exhaust and just risk voiding the motorplan anyway but he's a little more refined and just less stupid than I am, I guess 🤣 (probably why the universe has not seen fit to bless me with an M just yet 🤣)

But thanks for the awesome feedback as well! it was greatly appreciated!

R300K was also what I got quoted recently for an Akrapovic system for my 991.1 C2S
That seems to be the going rate.
Really not worth it, unless you have a GT3, etc.

The other option is to trawl the US / UK forums and you may be able to pickup a lightly used system for quite a lot less.

The next headache then is shipping it here (provided the seller is willing to go through the trouble of packaging it up nicely). Volumetric weight on a few exhaust boxes is going to be crazy via airfreight.

Thanks for this! - glad to know its not just him specifically as that was my concern - I personally worried BMW was just trying to run his pockets because he's just bought a brand new M4 Comp and a brand new X1 for the wife so I thought they might be trying to milk him for all he's worth 😅

If it were for me, that might be something I would consider as luckily we ship quite a lot of stuff for work so may have been able to leverage some connections with shipping there!

I think the concern there would be the potential of the Motorplan being voided here as I don't think BMW would be willing to install and/or warranty it 😒

Just as an FYI, Aramex Global Shopper does not work off volumetric weight but only the actual weight.
So depending on the item, it can at times be a relatively cost effective shipping option.

That post is from 2021, so inflation also a factor to consider. Exotic materials and branding (as mentioned) will do that. But yea, it's a lot of money for an exhaust.

I think with these sorts of things it is really more like whether a Tag Carrera or AP Royal Oak is worth it- if you are looking for value in the traditional sense, this isn't it. It's the tax we pay as car enthusiasts (or maybe S&M aficionados :ROFLMAO: ) if we can.

I have doubts as to whether the Akra is going to fill the void from the 911 (not without downpipes which will void his plan.... and even then the notes are probably very different). Not that it will be bad at all... just different and its a high bar. Something I remembered is that one of the other guys who fitted a titanium exhaust to his LCI F90 had a different experience to me with Pre LCI - I don't know if the G8x also had petrol particulate filters added. These attenuate the sound quite a bit. Worth checking if this is the case. He may be spending all that money to be potentially underwhelmed.

I have started seen the Adro M2 G87 kits in my feed and they have started to tempt me :ROFLMAO:.... fixed the issue I have with the front styling LOL.

That is ever so slightly horrifying tbh 🤣 inflation really is a killer 🤣 finally make enough to consider myself having a decent income - then everything else gets expensive and I'm poor again 🤣

LOL yeah, personally I'm an M2 > M4 kinda guy - but the Adro M4 Widebody is just too nice 🤣 I will say the Adro M2 Bumper does look amazing as that was the only thing keeping me from the new G87s vs the F87s which I still think they're some of the sexiest BMWs but also with the Square spoiler making a comeback on the G87, I am a big fan again (personally - I've always preferred the look of those E36 Square or NFS Style GT Wings over the Carbon Ducktail/Lip style Spoilers anyway)

That being said, in terms of Sedans, the F10 and F90 M5/M5Cs are also really starting to sway me away from Coupe as, while I don't intend to have any kids so don't need the back seat, the luxury and performance combo is really too worthwhile to be ignored

With regards to the particulate filters, that's a very good point, I believe the European, Chinese and Japanese Spec G8X options did, but the US Spec did not, so quite curious to see if the SA Spec came with it - Do you think they would void motor plan for removing it if we did get one? 🤣

When it comes to watches - if I'm spending AP money - then J&C Casino Tourbillion for the win 😉

But agreed on that - at the end of the day, these are things with such values because someone out there is willing to pay for it regardless of whether the rest of us think its worth or not - kind of similar for those spending R1M+ on a 200K+ km E36 M3 (although, I would get an E36 M3 if I could - Love the E36 😂)

Yep - buying power for most people is the same, or even backwards, when compared to 5+ years ago. The only people moving forward are the C-Suite folks. They are somehow always growing in real terms.
