Okay, so this might be a bit controversial, but its my opinion and I'm entitled to it.
I currently drive an F10 and when the G30 was announced, i thought it was a straight change when it was time, only for me to see the price and be massively disappointed that I am not getting much more car, for almost double the price.
I then started to look at the F15 (with 2 kids - an infant-pram etc), it seemed logical from a size point of view, but then i started thinking what I was actually getting for my money, then came to the realization that while i would get more boot height (volume is about the same to the F10), i was actually paying alot for the X-drive.
a few test drives confirmed that as far as 4x4 goes, its not up to scratch. The curb clearance isnt good. (just look at wrecked ones and most often you find transmission/transfer case, diff damage because its too low).
In effect then, i would be spending alot for off-road capabilities, without being able to pursue that realistically, as the car just isnt designed for it.
Insert a trip to dubai and dune bashing in a Land Cruiser V8 200 with heavy aunties at the back and the car didnt miss a beat.
Came back to SA and started seriously looking at them and came to the conclusion that it is a much better value for money purchase. Space isnt an issue, power isnt an issue, comfort isnt an issue and resale isnt a problem.
I have one problem - my garage is too small to accomodate it.
I am trying to get around that in the meantime and still looking for a decent deal.
If this X7 is meant to be a landcruiser killer, it better be able to go offroad for real, or it will just become the fodder of the Blue light brigade and nothing more.
