Good day,

I am looking at trading in my F10 520d for M50d, 2016 with 34 000km.

What are the common issues that I need to look at, your advice will be much appreciated. This will be the first X car for me, so I am not familiar at all.

Thanks.

Hi. My dad has a X5 m50d. Mileage is about 90,000km. The plan was extended last year. There were no issues other than routine servicing. They are one of the best sounding diesels around and pull really strong. You wont go wrong.

I have a 2014 with 50k km on it. I got it on 42k km so not long history with the car. I love it and no issues so far. I did ask for the motorplan history on the car before I bought it and there were no issues since new, except for normal services. From my research before I bought the car these cars seems very reliable. I must say its a dream car overall; it covers performance, space, gadgets (comes with lots of extras as standard), economy vs performance (although can be thirsty in town), some degree of going off tar roads fairly comfortably compared to BMW sedans with say M-sport packages (most of my previous cars) etc.

Any problems with diesel quality? Do you always have to put in 50ppm?
50ppm or better... 500ppm not going to do your dpf any favors.

11 to 12l per 100km. Open road anything between 8 to 11l per 100km, depending on angle of right foot

That's not bad for an high performance diesel

I get the same i town and worst on long roads on my 2018 Toyota Fortuner 2.8 GD-6, I'm yet to see the 10L per 100km mark!

You change the synthetic sound to make it sound like an M5 by the way.
