Hi. 1st time BM owner. Have a new 2015 X3 2.0d in Durbs. Is it me or did the BMW marketing guys set some of the X3 technical specs. Car specs say average consumption is 5 litres/100K but I always get around 8 - maybe closer to 7 on a long trip. That's on the Eco Pro mode - obviously higher rates on the normal and sports modes.
I think I'm a pretty normal driver and it burns me every time I fill up the X3 tank and feel I'm a few 100ks short.
Have raised it with dealer when I took car in for 1st service. They checked computer and said car's fine. Assumption: somehow I'm driving it wrong.
Otherwise car's drives great.

you will never be able to get the claimed figures

You drive normally, on normal roads with normal conditions

Those guys use test facilities that count in their favour....

7litres per 100kms for that vehicle is not bad at all

Had exactly the same thought when I got mine....average between 7 and 8 l/100km. I notice that the consumption increases exponentially above 120.
Return trip from Jhb to Durban gives me 7L/100km.
I guess the weight, permanent 4wd and height contribute to the thirst.
Great car to drive though....

At the moment we are sitting just above 8l/100km mostly local driving. To Durbs driving at the speed limit I would be below or just over 6l/100km. What's the mileage on your car? It usually gets better above 5k.

Mines a 220i, just under 5000km Havent yet seen any figures under 12l/100kms, so yes Im beginning to think in general its marketting.
5.7 l/100kms is the rated average on this range.

I know not even close to an X3 2.0d but my point being alot of manufacturers are getting hammered for false claims, the most recent is Ford Kuga.

Heavy body for a 2litre so will be slightly heavier than expected. But not bad. If I got that driving my car I'd be super happy haha

OK so from the feedback seems like my 67 litre tank was never gonna get me to 1300km. More like an 800k range - thanks BMW :thumbdo:
