Hey Guys! I need some advice for my brother.

He is looking at a 2015 Mini Cooper S with 92k KM on the clock. How are these engines out of motorplan, I'm assuming its the B48 engine?

Any advice would be appreciated, Thanks!

I once heard on Buyers Guide(Adam Ford), Channel 189 that Minis are quite expensive to maintain when out of plan, not sure how true that is!

I've had a late 2014 Cooper S for about a year/ 30000km, current mileage is 134k.

Maintenance is maintenance, and parts prices are comparable to E90 prices, factoring in the ABM discount.

The one thing I have noted is that everything takes a little bit longer to do (motor and surrounding) because of a lack of space, so something like an engine mounting on the drivers side is a 3 hour thing. I don't mind, but a shop may charge your an extra hour, as an example.

Find a good independent and a good scan tool/ or both, make sure the car is maintained as and when necessary and it shouldn't give you too much grief.

Hey Wes

Just jumping on the thread here - I'm looking at a 2014 Cooper S with 86k km (with a full service history)

4-years later since your last post -How has your Cooper S been treating you? Still a good car to have in 2024? How has your maintanence bill been?

They sure do present solid value for money given the engine size and fun factor, at under R250k (for a decent mileage/spec).

@dvst8 has a decent amount of knowledge on the MINIs.

From the little I know and have been advised on, look for a f56 2015 model as they had the better bmw model engines

2014 had both the R56 nad F56 models.

My advice is to stay away from the R56, they are known for issues. These still had the N14 and N16 engines. Rather look for a F56, so late 2014 up, these will have the B48 which is alot more reliable..

Hey there,

I had a 2015 CooperS until last year, honestly nothing to worry about at all in terms of the engine, the car had about 160 000kms on it. if you can, get an aftermarket warranty, i had the suspension as well as the gear leaver clips changed at BMW through the warranty.

when i got rid of the it did not have a single issue with it, just an FYI - its heavy on brakes and tyres ;)

Out of curiosity, how are these cars on fuel consumption?

The F Series have great fuel consumption. I had 2 F56 JCW’s and 2 F60 JCW’s, all pretty light on fuel even when having some fun with them.

The R53 Cooper S I had a while ago wasn't as light on fuel, especially when driving it hard.

Thanks for the feedback here @dvst8 and @FueY! Unfortunately the lower mileage one I looked at sold, but another has come up with ±140k km but with a strong price tag (R240k). Wondering how much meat is left on the bone (the car seems to very well maintained and feels tight). Overall though, seems like the B48s hold us well in these cars
