2013 F30 320i Msport: start/stop or gearbox issue?

Hi guys,

Before I start moaning….I must say that my battery is on its way and consequently the start/stop function hasn't been working for a while (which i rather appreciate) on my car and I am suspecting it to be the cause of the below mentioned issue…. However, kindly advice if anyone has had any similar issues experienced or advice… Thanx.

Just notice in the last 2 weeks: (and it only happened twice now). Upon stopping at a stop and with my foot on the Brakes, the stop/start will shut down the engine but as soon as I leave the Brakes the engine will then start up again BUT in park mode rather than drive….

The idrive indicates to drive moderately and the vehicle with gearbox sign came up……but all disappeared once the car restarted.

When I checked it out whilst home, there were no warnings and the idrive shows no faults at all.

I use the car daily and it starts and go normally without any gear selection issues.

So it just randomly happened in the last 2 weeks. It doesn’t happen all the time. I’ll just be in traffic, it stops the engine then starts again once I step off the brakes BUT in park mode, I then I shift to drive, and its all ok then….

A dead battery or one thats on its way can cause alot of electronic malfunctions.
replace with an OEM one and see if the issues continue

Had a similar issue before replacing my battery and the car would throw warning about "transmission fault slowly drive to the nearest dealer alarm", replace the battery and get it registered.

yes, i have experienced the electronic malfunctions a month or two ago on my e88 135i, and had to replace both the battery and alternator. Thanks though for your advise...

Battery definitely causes some strange warnings to pop up. Experienced similar issues on my F30 recently. Replaced battery with non-oem and it didn't resolve the issue, was told the battery is still the problem. Replaced with OEM and still have an issue so trying to find the cause.
If you want a replacement battery at a good price I'd be happy to sell you the one that I replaced, just about 1 year old now and it is AGM.
