The fashion orientated ladies who know nothing about cars would probably say: I like that car's stripey black and white colour scheme, it will match my new handbag perfectly!:roflol:

I do not like the sound at all, wtf was wrong with the straight six anyway.

There seems to be confusion as to what engines they really want to use, M3 --- I6, V8, V6, M5 --- I6, V8, V10, V8

Cmon, make up your mind BMW

One reason is that the V6 is smaller so more space to other junk.

Another reason could possibly be that they are using it as a test bench for replacing all I6's (x35i/d designated cars) with V6's to open up the possibility of FWD cars through say the entire 1 and 3 range and part of the 5 and 7 range.

I'll lose all respect for BMW if they make FWD cars. The 1 series maybe because many 1 series drivers don't even know that their cars are RWD but anything else? No.

they can do pretty much anything else and still have some respect they day they make Fwd they will have lost the last bit of their soul...

Well I think that is something that you will have to make peace with, BMW will go FWD in the future, it is just the direction of the times.

It really doesn't make sense to actually make a road car RWD, for one thing about 90% of BMW owners probably don't even know that there cars are RWD. RWD obviously gives you a better balance in terms of handling, but is this really needed? Even for people that like their cars more performance orientated are pretty much just interested in straight line speed.
Further FWD is also lighter, cheaper, cheaper to make, takes less space and is generally easier and safer for most people.

Well, if they go for the V6, its purely because the engine is more compact and would allow for more space, another point to keep in mind is the whole reason behind BMW's decision to build Straight six engines, this was because in N/A form it was easier to extract more Power by making use of its ability to rev higher than its V6 counterpart, due to it being less prone to vibration. Force-fed motors in general don't need to and rarely do rev very high in order to make power, so V6 or I6 would work equally well, this was proven when Nissan changed their prized GTR's power plant from I6 to V6, also now they can increase the capacity of the motor without having to worry about space. It worked out great for Nissan,So why not For BMW:thumbs:

The new M3 will make power no doubt. But why does the new beemers sound like empty tins. Bmw engineers must stop worry about the configuration of the engine which we cant see and focus on what we can hear....

Very true, the new 328 sounds hollow, no depth like the older engines. Back in the day, the raw engine note was enough and sounded amazing, but with all this modernization, they will need to start looking at throwing some tricks into that engine now.

At the end of the day it wont matter if its a V6 or I6 its going to be an epic car. Lets just hope that they get the exhaust note sorted. And of course the induction noise is very important aswell.
