Hi Everyone,
Been on the forum for a little while, I just haven't truly introduced myself.
So I have had the car now for just under 2 years and it has been nothing short of amazing. Its a 2012 118i F20 M-Sport. The car was saved from a very bad and abusive owner who hardly looked after the car. The car had missed service dates and more than a few scratches. Given the known issues with the 118i N13, this was a risk. But at the price it was going for (R120K) I figured it wouldn't be much of a risk finance wise. My plan was initially to drive it for 3 years max and move on (car had 82K km when I got it), but since then I have grown to love her and want to keep her forever.
There has been some work I have done on the car. Clutch replaced at about 92K km, fuel pump replaced at about 94K km, and timing kit and VANOS sorted at about 98K km (only the clutch was done out of pocket fortunately - car has 107K km on the odometer now). Beyond the usual service as well, she has not skipped a beat and really does drive well.
I'm so happy that mechanically it is sound, I can finally focus my attention on sorting out the scratches and scruffs and the small dents. This is my first car, and I'm very lucky that is is a BMW (PSA engine, I know). Its pretty brisk when pushed but can be light on fuel if you want it to be (averaged about 8.3 l/km combined since ownership). The fact that it is a manual is even better (hence the username)!
Thank you to you all here on the forum as well. I've learned a lot from the discussions had here and advice given. Here's to many more years of BMW
