Hi All. A mate has a car as above and recently it popped up with Abs, airbag and brake lights on dashboard. This is also followed with the engine fan running at loud and high Speed.

Seems to be a sensor of some sort as all items sterted at onfe. Any suggestions

That is a strange combination of lights.

Read the codes with INPA or ISTA to see which errors come up.

If the steering angle sensor is out of whack, or there is a dead wheel speed sensor, the ABS, 4x4 and DSC/DTC lights will show. The airbag light is a strange addition.

The fan running at full speed could be the result of a dead coolant temp sensor, or the car is just overheating. X3 has the same cooling system weaknesses as the E46.

Thanks for the feedback, appreciated. Strange thing is he had a guy come through and scanned the codes and cleared them. Started the car and everything was back to normal but after the next start the same symptoms reappeared again. Based on this seems very unlikely that there are multiple issues occurring at once and more so since the car has never missed a beat from brand new:dunnoanymore:

The point about reading the codes is not to just clear them, but to note what the error codes are. It is often the only way to identify the underlying cause of the warning lights.

I had the exact same issue on my E53 X5 as well as a friend of mine with his X3. Turned out to be one of the ABS speeds sensors. Replaced the faulty sensor and all was back to normal. From what I understand, if it's not one of the speeds sensors, worst case it's the ABS control unit acting up.

Hope this helps
