Hi

I'm glad i joined the forum, maybe might get advice. I have 2008 Mini Cooper S, involved in accident, airbags popped. Everything else is fixed except for Airbags....any advice? Dealers quoted R22,000 for both airbags.

Good idea. If you fixed it like that you probably don't need to worry about a warrenty or saftey.:mmm:

Exactly... :thumb: You'll have a roll cage and a four (or five) point safety harness..

Thanks Guys....i'll start searching at Scrapyards......and finding a professonal to them.

What about the upholstrey on the passenger airbag side?
The steering wheel should be easy to replace, hope so.

Hey Cooper T

The steering wheel does not need to be replaced. Only the airbag unit.

As far as I know the entire top half of the dash needs to be replaced on the left.

As far as i know it wont be only the airbags that needs replacement.:cursin:
You will need the airbag triggers as well as new seatbelt pre tensioners, since these are supposed to go off the moment the airbag deploys. If these items are not replaced, the airbag light will stay on all the time and none of the airbags will work in the event of a crash.:bawling:
I think it would be better to remove all airbags and cover the ones that deployed and take out the light, since the cost involved to fix everything wont be worth it. Just live without it and hopefully dont crash again

BTW, who fixed the car?

Cause without insurance it is obviously not a bmw approved panel beater. And bmw probably doesn't know about the accident, so now one day you are going to sell this car and an unsuspecting buyer will think o what a nice car. Then he's in an accident and dies because some random oke welded in a few bits on the chassis rails. Now whose fault is that going to be?

How the fuck can you drive a 2008 CooperS with no insurance? :banghead:

fixed :) surely its still financed, finance terms stipulate the asset will be insured at all times. Its a contract breaker.

My thoughts exactly...

We cannot finance a car without insurance being approved. On top of that I agree with the others...

This is very dishonest. :banghead:

Maybe you guys are in a hurry to give this poor chap a flak...
he said the car was involved in an accident...he did not say whether at that point he was the owner...perhaps he bought the car cash after it was involved in an accident and he is in a process of rebuilding it...oh well just a thought!!!

That might be true, so if that is the case sorry for him. There are reasons that cars are written off. It means usualy that they are unfit for road use.

I never said don't fix it. just while your at it, make it something spesial, don't try and fix it and then one day be supprised that something doesn't work as it should in a crash.

That is for me the worst thing in the word, thease SMT cars that you can "FIX" and then you have a dream car. Most of the time it is "fixed" by backyard panel beaters then if something goes wrong, it is the cars fault.

Hi Willy

Not the same Mike.

Glad the upgrade has made an improvement though.
