Hi,

I'm looking at buying a 2006 530i (automatic) and was hoping you Fanatics could help me out with regards to the pros and cons (if any)? :praise: Also take into account that this car is out of motor plan. It's a real stunner but i want to know what things i need to look out for before making the purchase?

Any help is much appreciated.

Hi Cheslin,

Welcome to the BMWFanatics Forum.

I havent had alot of exposure to the E60's but im sure if you post these same questions in the 5 Fanatics section, you will receive some assistance.

I don't think the gurus ever check the subforums, I just check new posts, so it does not matter where you post.

Cheslin, we need some more info, whats the mileage on the car?

If these cars are well maintained and well looked after, there is nothing particularly weak that might break and cost you millions. The engine does not give much trouble, the gearbox does not either. Suspension is a maintenance item that is often overlooked, etc. Overall, you get an awesome car for the price of a polo.

My only advice is, if you buy an older high-end car, have some reserve funds available for in case something goes wrong. This will be some money that you think of as "part of the purchase price", and not use for anything else.

Hi P1000,

It was recommended that I post here rather than on the main forum, by XMAX.

Thanks for the advice. I am actually waiting on a call regarding the mileage. Price-wise it's going for R139 000 but it is negotiable. It does look like a very well maintained car. I've always loved BMW but have never owned one. Been a Toyota man all my life. Currently i drive the RunX RSi, and love the car, but i feel the time is right for a change:=):

I will try and get more information on the car and feedback to you.

Oh, and make sure the mileage is real, these cars last VERY well, and are one of the most clocked cars around... I know it will be difficult if you are used to Toyotas to tell mileage. Best is to look at a lot of them and pay attention to things like the steering wheel, seats and pedals and note any wear.

Hi Cheslin,

once again, congrats on joining one of the nicest car forums anywhere in the world.

2006 530i for R139k. Now that is a superb price, provided that the mileage is decent.

Find out the Vin number and contact BMW to check the history of the car.

Send a PM to Coisman on this forum and ask him very nicely to do an E-Natis check on the car.

When you go to see the car, dont get swept up with all the hype of the car. I know that its hard to do when you see such a beautiful machine, but try to look at the car objectively. take along someone with experience in panel beating or on how to spot a car that has been in an accident.

Im not saying that the car is a bad deal. if the car is all above board then youre getting a superb car at an extra superb price. if not, at least you wont be stuck with a lemon.
