2006 BMW 530d

Hi guys, I'd like to introduce my new to me 2006 BMW 530d auto ( not sure on the trim level wish it was a Msport lol ). I bought the car a week ago after nearly a month without an car. Car was elderly owned, previous owners had the car for over 7 years. After driving my buddies e90 330d I knew a 30d is what I'm after and sold my e46 330i (sport). I wanted a 330d but couldn't pass down on this car I really got it for a steal, especially considering the condition! Not a spec of rust, some scratches here and there which is understandable for it's age. I'm really inlove with this car, never thought I'd fancy a auto ahaha.
I have some plans with the car which incldues:
- full service
- gearbox service
Followed by
- Style 128 rims and tires
- Gearbox tune ( these autos are very slow and lazy )
- down pipe & tune
- debating on egr and dpf delete.

I'm sure others won't agree on the tuning part and say it's not necessary and you're right it's not but I'm still go do it🤣🤣

On another note
This car doesn't have aux or USB but rather the 6 CD reader in the glove compartment. I'd really love bt or aux audio as I'm rocking CDs at the moment. What option do I have regarding getting some type of BT audio?
The two chrome strips around my window are like black? It's like the chrome coating is peeling off, where would I find replacement strips.

What do you guys get consumption wise? My trim from George to Melkbosstrand I got 6.5L/100 traveling @150km/H

Can't seem to upload photos?

Congrats on your new ride bro.

What's your odo reading? Be careful with servicing your box beyond xxxxxxxKM.

Otherwise, a tune on the M57 would be beneficial- egr/swirl flap delete is a must. When fitting a downpipe, it's basically a dpf/cat delete.

Enjoy

COngrats on the car.

Based on the mileage and previous usage will determine whether you will be able to do the gearbox service. I would suggest taking it to ZF for them assess and analyse the oil. If all is well with the GB service, i would highly recommend the XHP stage2 .

The Egr and DPF(dont think the Pre LCI had DPF) would do the car some good, but some have reported some low down torque loss. Your consumption is on par(maybe even a tad light at the speed) for a stock M57, software might not neccessarily be lighter at the same average speed.

There is a set of style 167s on Facebook that look decent, I had them on my LCI and had no rubbing issues. There arent many options regarding USB, there was kit that was available in the US, that replaced the optical CD shuttle. It allowed for USB, bluetooth and HDD. The problem was the exchange rate as well as our Postal Service. THe guy that was able to supply stopped sending to SA due to items getting lost. The cost of alternative postage was more than buying a replacement android Headunit.

Recently there are more options for replacement units and I would go that route.

car has 191k on, what would be the problem with servicing the box on higher km?

Congrats on the new ride!
They are lovely cars, and surprisingly not that much heaver than a e90.

A remap and Xhp flash will totally transform the car.

Many happy and luxurious Miles

I didn't know that at a certain mileage you can't service the gearbox? I'd definitely want to do XHP with downpipe and tune with all the bits you mentioned.
I'm more than happy with the fuel consumption just in town the 3.0L likes to drink a little more but still far more efficient than my m54b30.
I do like the style 167s, my car is a very light silver so I'm finding it hard to get a nice set of matching oem rims for the car.
I did research on the Bluetooth option and like you said very limited to options the only good way is to get a android system so I'll look into that aswell.

I'm surprised the weight difference is so small, the car looks like it should be almost 200kg heavier, a lot bigger than the e90 inside.
My buddie has a lci 330d also with a down pipe and tune and it's unbelievably quick. I know the m57 won't make the same power unless I do a lot more.
Car already feels so good so I'm sure with the xhp and a good tune I'll he more than happy with it

The pre lci has the older turbo, so there is some limitation there but from 160kw (135-140kw on the wheel) , you should be able to achieve 190-200kw on the wheel. They also have troublesome intake flaps ( they are prone to cracking and being ingested) so have them checked out, or just get the kit to have them removed.

If the box's adaption values are out of spec,it wouldn't be advisable to service the box, because draining the oil might drain all deposits from the already worn clutches which could then cause slippage once topped up with fresh oil.

This was the issue on my tuned E90 330d and I had to eventually rebuild the box after driving around for about 6 years with adaption values that were way out of spec.It just started slipping overnight ,but luckily I had the "oh shit" fund ready for the rebuild as I had anticipated it to happen sooner or later.

I didn't know this was a thing, someone mentioned I can have ZF assess and analyze the oil, so I'll definitely do that. I did buy the car from a elderly couple do I hope that counts in my favor.
Thanks for the heads up appreciate it loads🙌🏽

I know the first e60 530d are said to have 160kw, followed by 170kw and 173kw. My car was registered in January 2006 but built sometime near the end of 2005, how would I tell if it's the 160kw or 170kw?
2005 had both 160 and 170kw engines

use a site like https://www.mdecoder.com/ to check what the build sheet was using the VIN. The engine code should give an indication.

I dont think so.The 170/173KW had the TU motor,so there were certain changes made as part of the "Technical Update"
seems that is rite:

Bore x stroke: 84 mm × 90 mm (3.31 in × 3.54 in)[3]

  • 150 kW (201 hp) and 410 N⋅m (302 lb⋅ft)
    • in the E46 as 330d/330Cd/330xd[5]
    • in the E83 as X3 3.0d[5]
  • 160 kW (215 hp) and 500 N⋅m (369 lb⋅ft)

M57D30TÜ TOP

Bore x stroke: 84 mm × 90 mm (3.31 in × 3.54 in)[3]

  • 200 kW (268 hp) and 560 N⋅m (413 lb⋅ft)
