lol what a load of BS.

OP I would recommend you search some international forums for actual information regarding common faults and maintenance etc....

But also remember to get as much info about the car as you can, owner history, service history, motorplan history....also have someone else look the car over as it is easy to loose perspective when buying a car.

Why it depreciated so badly....its a BMW, its a 5 series, it has a big engine.
(The e60 body shape is also an acquired taste.)

Sorry sash. I know you're an e60 owner. I do really like the look from the front or from the front angle all the way down to the boot. But for me and many others the rear is not a pretty sight. I did not meant to offend anyone. I was just try to give the guy a reason as to why the 5 series are selling for peanuts compared to its original value. They are great cars like LZ said and I'm not disputing that. They are far superior to the 3 series. And have aluminium body parts so they don't weigh all to much more as one would think being such a big car.

No problem Diesel, no offence taken. I think the rear especially without the boot spoiler looks like its missing something. the problem is that there isnt much options easily available to 'correct' it.

I still catch myself thinking "damn that's a nice car" before even realising it's an E60 when I watch the cars go by....

At the risk of sounding like a mentally challenged parrot.

The secret with these cars is in the all aluminium chassis.

Go drive one, you have too... or come for a drive with me... :)
nothing under a 530d through, else its just annoying, 530d with tune, or 545/550

I've driven an E60 545i, and I must say I enjoyed it a lot. Comfortable, and the v8 motor sounds great.

It shifts too, had the salesman looking for the grab handle at one point :D

Did the op ever buy one? There is a mint...really MINT 545i in Jozie which I was considering as a backup if the 740i deal fell through. At R119k its a bargain and I have seen very few 05-06 E60s in such immaculate nic.
