2005 E90 330d Oil Filter

Done a oil change the other day and want to know exactly how this filter seals off on the face where it mates with the oil filter housing on the bottom as well as the oil filter housing cap at the top? The only seals is the double seal on the inside of this filter, it has these double seals on both the top and bottom, and I cannot grasp how these seals work?

The oil flow is from the outside of the filter inwards. So those O-rings ensure a seal and that the oil only flows through the filter element.
