Hi guys,

I need some advise please,

I was driving today and steering went hard, stopped, popped the bonnet and power steering belt was lying on the under carriage, it never snapped, but it cut longwards, like I had two belts,
Anyway this is a new belt I put a few months back from golswagen,
Any idea why it would do that,
I do have some power steering fluid leak, had it for some time, but bottle is always full,
I dont want to just put another belt, I need to figure why it did that,
Im considering sending the pump for a recon as I read they pron to go, miliage is almost on 200k,
The pipes are way to expensive to change any idea on that,

There is something I have been wanting to know, if u turn ur wheel full and lock it while car is on idle does your pumps stop, mine stops, that can't be normal as the damper pulley is still turning the belt and so it burns the belt on the power steering pump pulley,

Any feedback would be appreciated, oh and I drove it home, no harm there hopefully,
Oh and not a single warning light, is that right,

You said you bought the belt a few months ago. Parts come with warranty...

Hi, didnt keep the receipt, but bought a new one, drove the car for 100km and it did the same thing, from what I gather the damper pulley needs to be changed,

Any advice on changing it, how to and cost,

Hi Clif,

Did you come right here? What was the issue? If the issue is a damper pulley then i hope you bought OEM :)

I have advised clifton to go oem. As the aftermarket ones don't last.

The oem brand is Corteco and can be bought off eBay for R2700 shipped. But it takes 3 to 4 weeks to get here. I arranged with the seller to send mine as a gift.

My pulley is on its way out. When my 330d is ready, hopefully this week. I will garage the 320d until the pulley is installed.

Hi. Yes. I am pretty sure its the damper pulley. Has a play on it causing the belt to jump off. I turn the damper pulley manualy and u can see when the belt starts to jump off. Will buy new pulley. Aircon pulley and belts. But cash is tight right now.so bmw sitting at home.

I put a new belt again and I drive it around the area now and then to ensure the battery doesn't run dead or anything. But by the looks of it. Will only get this sorted end of sept.
