Ok so my wife and I were supposed to take delivery of a 2004 X5 3.0D, however it left my sister in law stranded last week when it cut out while driving.

Car was towed to Ballito Autohause and R19k later was given back to them.

Yesterday the car cut out again while my brother in law was driving, same fuel injection warning. Can anybody shed any light on this issue?

I don't want to have the same issue driving up to JHb with my wife in in the car.

Dont know if this is related but the fuel gauge also doesnt read correctly. If the needle drops below a quarter tank you run out of diesel. I found this out the hard way some time late last year.
I believe the turbo was also replaced 2 years ago.

Even though the vehicle is being given to us for free my wife is sceptical of taking it on due to the costs of maintenance and the constant issues it seems to be suffering lately.

Im trying to convince her otherwise but the car is just not playing along. Im beginning to think that the car is cursed!:cthulhu:

Take it back to BMW, they must sort it out if you paid them R19k.

I had a similar issue with BMW on my wife's X5 3.0sd - it had a small oil leak. BMW repaired the diesel line but that wasn't the fault. Eventually had to have the turbo sorted out but did it elsewhere.

btw. I have a full set of EBC Discs and Pads for an E53 X5. I ordered it from the UK but they sent me the wrong ones (I have an E70). PM me if you're interested.

When was the fuel filter last replaced? Mine did the same, replaced fuel filter, and it's sorted. Remember, BMW typically do not replace the fuel filters under motorplan.

Will try to get the invoices sent to me to confirm...gues it makes sense to start with the filter then work my way up...

Fuel filter is supposed to be done every 45k

Also, diagnostics will help.

This could be anything from a failing crank sensor to a failing high pressure fuel pump. IF its missing, it could be a set of injectors.

But as everyone said, start with the filter

I had to replace the crank sensor. When I first had the issue diagnostics was done and errors cleared.

It is only when it happened again that I googled the issue printed it out took it to the workshop showed the explanation to them. Problem solved!!!
