2004 318i E46 Price

Hey all

What would be a reasonable price for a 2004 318i E46 if it has 180000km on the clock, recently been serviced, no accidents or scratches, AA Approved Road worthy although NO service History BUT BMW says the car is OK.

I want to buy this and I'm new to BMW, so I'm not so clued up....
Any suggestions welcome

I would think about R65,000 - R85,000 sounds about right. :dunno:

Just budget in a coolant system overhaul if you decide to take it unless it has been done recently, as the cooling systems are a bit weak. Also suspension bits like bushes etc will need to be looked at. Not sure about which motor this year model has in as some of them are known to have lots of issues, but I will let leonard chime in about that.

318i A/T Touring 2005 with 174 000km R69 000.00
Remember I have the n46 engine, same as the e90 I think you might have the n42 engine.

Sounds about right, maybe check comparable second hand cars on Gumtree, Autotrader etc...

Well it seems that I can get this one for R60000. Comparing it to Gumtree prices it seems like a bargain. Hope it treats me just as well as my 1998 Corolla.... without the oil leaks...

We just sold our 2004 E46 318i N46 Auto with 84K km's Motorplan, FSH, Exclusive pack (Xenons, Centre armrest, 3 spoke steering wheel, auto lights & wipers, Nokia bluetooth) for R95k

2004 should have the N46 Motor so all the bugs are ironed out for you, double check engine bay Tag if so then yes thats the same motor they use in the e90 320i's

R60k is great price for that car barring it is in a good condition, if it is I say buy it and Welcome to the Club.:thumbs:

Check if its the N42 or N46 motor.

You cn see this by the little sticker on the right shock tower, if its the N42, your best to stay clear.

Other then that, I have to say, you may be better off going with a 6 cylinder,

The 4 cyl's give trouble, that said, when they are running, they are fantastic.....

I drove a N42 Manual this weekend and it totally changed my mind about buying a 318i in manual form. I loved the car completely and will buy one without a doubt.

R60k is a very good price for the car. if youre not interested... send the details my way... cos im looking rather urgently as well.

So the car was in an accident before. The guy lied to me, I checked the VIN #....:argh: It now also suddenly has some problems with the revs not wanting to go higher....:thumbdo:

OK. So back to square 1

So am I correct in saying- a 6 Cyll is better (like a 320i or higher)?
- N42 Engine = problems?

I can only spend like R70000 max... is it worth buying a BMW? Everybody tells me that after the first 150000 km or so BMW just has problems? Is this true? I'm not trying to offend... just searching for opinions

Yup, if you can go for a 6-cylinder also try and go for the bigger ones as the fuel consumption is not so much higher on the bigger ones, but they are a lot more fun to drive.

For 70k max, you can get yourself a pretty good BMW (better than you will get if you go for some eco-box).

And no, BMW's don't just start giving problems after 150k km, but don't be fooled you will need to replace maintenance parts and this will become more as the car ages, it is so with all cars. Also the parts will be more expensive than on other cars, but not that much more if you know where to get, and that is where the guys on the forum will be of most help. Also if you plan to work on your car yourself then you can save on labour, with that you will also find help on the forum.
