Just to add, there are no error lights on the dash when the above occurs.
It has happened 3 times since I have the car.

Probably not the same as i experienced. Mine threw error lights and the car struggled to select gears.

Suggest to get it checked by either Gizmo or a reputable BMW mechanic.

If only Gizmo wasnt so far!

Please do post up a DIY and pics of the trim wrapping as I want to have mine done as well. Was thinking of going piano black, or anthracite. Also don't know if I should spray or wrap. In two minds.

So Im about halfway with interior wrap. Is a bit dark, as stated before and while it looks ok, I think I would like something with a bit more contrast.

The 4 door pieces and 3 dash ones are all done. Just need to do the centre console and radio flap piece. Maybe this weekend. The rear doors were the easiest to remove and wrap, hardest ones were the front doors, they have a few small bubbles - but I will be redoing them in another colour soon so I just left them as it was getting late.

Some pics (to follow)

Teaser pic while I get some work done :)

Gizmo might be far, but let me tell you, worth the drive when you know the person working on your car can be trusted to actually do a proper job

Small crack on the wood trim showing through the vinyl
I think using a thicker vinyl will hide it better

Nicely done...looks great.

Also wanted to do this when I got my car never got around to it, the wood trim has since grown on me and I kinda dig it for now. Will possibly consider a brushed aluminium or graphite in the future...

Be sure to check out the brushed graphite as well, when I looked at them a while back the aluminium looked a bit "bright" for a 5.

The actual brushed vinyl material think it was a 3M product was on the pricey side compared to the regular stuff. If you go this route and dont mind, I would be keen on doing my car as well...might be bit more cost effective. We can chat down the line:thumbs:

The graphite is awesome and is what I want :praise:

So far it looks good.

What type of clips hold the trim in place? I don't know if I want to wrap as my trim also has a few hairline cracks and I don't want them to show through. So I'm guessing I want to spray mine...

There are two types if I remember correctly
The alu back has studs that get pushed into a plastic and metal retainer clip

I have quite a bit left of that colour, so if you want feel free to come get some, I could even give a hand if you need
also have trim removal tools to prevent further cracking an damage

Congratz on the car!

Had that "gearbox" thing only happen once with me but was told it could also be that it detects a miss and then go into limp mode . . . thought it to be the coil that is acting up.

I never really drove her hard.

Will call you a bit later.
