I'll have me an //M4 thank you very much:skit:
Many people would. In a comparative test the M4 would be a better car. But, the m4 has no pedigree, history, collectability or appreciating value.

Not many people would choose a classic as it does not have the same status.

But I would bet money that the AlpinA would be a more fun an involving drive, but most BMW drivers don't know the difference anyway.

Each to their own I guess.

This car is for someone that already has a collection of m cars (new old and very rare) with some Bugattis and Ferraris in the mix. It's a piece of history being bought

Very valid points you make, but my e46 M3 gives me all the pedigree, history and every other thrill a car enthusiast could ever ask for and appreciate,at fraction of the price, Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate that this is a very collectable car and probably a better investment than most //M Cars. The 2002ti however simply doesn't strike me as a BMW I would want to acquire at R1M. BMW'S I won't mind spending a few millions on would include, the BMW //M1 atleast.

In my case however, poverty dictates, so the e46 //M3(if it doesn't decide to grenade on me one of these days) is going to be the best thing since sliced bread for a while.

Each to own indeed

Not to be pedantic, but as much as I love the e46, especially a csl, it doesn't have the pedigree or history of the ti. Only BMWs e30 m3, 3.0csl and to some extent the 328 can match it. The ti has won le mans, 24h nur twice, European championships, German championships, group 2, group 5, even some rallye events including wrc.

I think you find that a Minicooper would be much better car to drive in a purely objective test. But that is not the point!! The guy who drops 1 bar on that will not be deciding if he will buy an M4 or an Alpina.

Although if I had a spare bar I would be driving the Alpina. :praise:

I do have a Cooper S as a daily... But I do love the rawness of my 2002. It is an event to drive, but I would not mind having a ti with actual pedigree.

Cyclone101' and Clownshoe, the tribal counsel has spoken, so there are people out there willing to pay R1M for a 2002ti, maybe people buy different cars for different reasons.... collectors /racers/tuners/ customisers Etc.

I concede that's it's history in motion, got a great motorsport heritage, brilliant investment much like a mercedes 300sl or porsche 456 gt, point taken, however, I would jus not be interested even at alot less than R1M, think you summed it up in your first post Cyclone.

I've got an obsession with mini cooper jcw mind you, love them
