Hi all,
I really like the look and rarity of the BMW 2002 but I'm very well aware such dreams don't come cheap. Eventually I'd like to one day build a canyon crusher type car that I can also take to the track.
Have this silly idea that I can get a fairly beaten up 2002 and restomod by fitting new engine (Maybe an inline 4/6 from e30 or e36), gearbox (dog leg preferably for that old school feel
, suspension, exhaust, LSD, brakes and roll cage (probably half).
Visually I would want the car to look decent by removing rust and repainting the body. Interior wise, I'm not too fussy and will probably try reclaim seats or find any old school looking racing seats.
Realistically:
1. Is what I'm looking for at all possible to build? How much car knowledge would I need to have to manage the process and DIY some stuff
2. What should I expect to budget for this kind of undertaking? (even more helpful if you can give a breakdown in groups e.g., body ZAR30k, repaint ZAR30k, Engine recondition and install ZAR30k, etc....) FYI - Not trying to build a Le Mans or Concours winning car. I'm also not in a rush to get it done quickly. I just want something that looks decent, I can drive hard reliably and have fun with.
Any additional advice is welcome.
A few BAT examples to show the art of the possible
