2002 Bmw E46 330d facelift.

Good day to all bmw fanatics,

I'm new to this forum btw.

I bought a BMW E46 330D on Saterday (11.03.17). It was a lady owner's car so it is pretty neat. The car has 273 000 km on the clock and engine has never been opened just serviced on the right time.

After collecting the car I went to the garage to full up diesel, check oil and water. A point of oil was needed and not evens a 500ml of water was needed. As I opened the oil cap i saw that there was white-ish/ creamy stuff on the inside of the cap. Yesterday I went to the garage again to check my oil and water, only a little water was needed but when I checked my oil again there was a point short again. And is it normal by starting the car the oil light goes on (yellow) and after approx. 5 seconds it goes off again.

What could possibly be the problem. I want to fix it before I gets worst.

Hi Bud,

Going to take a wild guess and say you might have a blown head gasket, best you have it checked by a good mechi.

Sorry to say bud, that's blown head gasket and/or cracked cylinder head. Not the cheapest thing to fix. :thumbdo::sorry:

Approx. How much will it cost me? I'm in Western Cape area.

The cost might warrant you getting a replacement motor....(depending on prices and so on)

Check you're oil and water. ...take it for a nice drive until the engine is at proper temp and then pull the oil dip stick and check if that oil is white as well
I have seen more than ones especially when the crank case breather is dirty that condensation builts up and since the filler cap is at the highest point that's where it accumulate and then cause that white build up.
If the oIL on the dipstick is white or milky as well...
Then it's time to have a head gasket test done at most radiator shops

As has been mentioned, it could be condensation built on the oil filler cap, but to be safe, I would take it straight to Brilliant Mechanical Workshop and have them at least compression test to rule out a headgasket failure. Better safe than sorry. Driving around on a blown head gasket can create a lot of extra damage which will ratchet up the cost of final repair.
