The input shaft looks clean and a recent break from what I can see.
Is there a piece in the prop?

Those boxes are not easy to strip and assemble and there are very few that can do it.

Update.
I installed the new guibo and centre bearing to the propshaft although the propshaft flange is tweaked which made refitting it back on the car an absolute nightmare, so gearbox and propshaft are now needed to cure the serious problem we facing.

Old shifter out, new bush and E46 330d shift lever to be installed.

330d left, M3 right.

Someone TIG welded it at some stage, the plot thickens...

New bush and shift lever greased and ready for installation.

Installed along with shift rod in the correct orientation, no rubbing on guibo any more.

New fuel filter installed and marked.

Trailing arm bushes are dated 2007.

Replacements installed, dated 2014.

New power steering hose installed along with 4 new crush washers.

New rear pads installed.

More pics tomorrow when the job reaches completion.:ty:

What are you and the owner going to do about the gearbox shaft that is broken?

Surely it cant be driven like that?
Thats what I said, then he told me he's been driving like that for +-150 000km when Vaal Ridge Auto told him he needs to replace the gearbox several years back!
I must just put it all back together so he can take it home, park it and source a replacement gearbox and propshaft, he doesn't have the money to fix it now. The car is not his daily anymore so he can take the time to find a good deal, plus Im keeping an eye out too.

Used plugs look used, particularly cyl 5.

OEM plugs are NGK.

Torqued correctly at 22nm.

Strip the old exhaust mounts off, transfer the re-enforcing brackets after they get some prepsol and elbow grease.

Date stamp on the old ones is 2001, so they were the originals, new date stamp 2014.

Old aftermarket front sway bar end links removed, passenger side was particularly poked.

Replacements in place.

The climate control unit display was damaged, I replaced it with the updated E46 one. Slight difference in button arrangement.

The sump plug is damaged from someone using the wrong size allen key, instead of damaging it further I will just drain it out the much bigger sump plug next to it.

Drain the old oil out the oil cooler too. Good thing I did too as the bolt was loose.

What's the bill so far ?
Total for the job about R20k in parts and about R9k in labour.

Cleaned the "big" sump plug and its bolts with prepsol.

Refitted, also cleaned the underneath with prepsol. Steering rack was really caked with dirt, some still visible in the pic, completely clean now.

Old engine mounts out, dated 2001. Some 10-15mm lower than the new replacements.

New mounts in place.

One wheel bolt missing from front left wheel.

Fixed.

Removed the passenger headlight to fix it.

Snapped adjusters were the reason for the cable tie fix. I replaced the adjusters and re-assembled the headlight.

Replaced the missing headlight rubber.

Replaced the missing adjustment wheel on the RHS headlight.

Engine bay got a cleaning on top too.

Last thing to replace, the bonnet badge. Ari supplied the replacement.

Fantastic work...... let us know his reaction when it's picked up.
Will do, he is collecting her tomorrow. Im really impressed how well it drives for the mileage, I have experienced ones with half the mileage that feel sloppy and well used, not the case with this one. BTW it sounds awesome too, so responsive and so much fun blipping the throttle between shifts.:ty:

Well done, Gizmo. At least you Tuned the customer everything.
Thank you. I do more than that, with the car on the lift I show the customer so he can see with his own eyes what needs replacement.
