nice welding job, as far as ive heard, aluminium welding is quite specialized and not every welder can do it... its all good. Enjoy

Did they give any indication of why it failed? I am a little worried as my M5 was driven for a while with collapsed diff bushing and I am sure it took some hits!!

Apparently the diff seals were done a while back at 3 series service center. They overtorqued the pinion bearing which caused the damage to the diff and possibly caused extra strain on the mounting point.

But the mounting point is aluminium and the M5 has a lot of power, so it's a weak point anyway. That's why DINAN makes a reinforcement kit.

interesting indeed.
i think what alot of mechanics (which these days are often "fitters") dont realise, behind manufacturer torque specs theres some science, different metals mating, expansion and contraction etc... why certain types of bolts are used and why they are torqued to a spec which allows for variances in temp,expansion/contraction etc etc...

She's all good. Still need to take it easy for another 300km before I can push it properly again.
