2001 E39 530i Fuel consumption

Hi

I hope someone can help me with some true figures on a E39 530i fuel consumption and not estimates or test drives out of a book. I am currently looking at buying a 2001 E39 530i and would like to know this before looking further at the car.

I do not have a 5 series but I do have a 330 manual, and I get about 12 liters per 100. You'll get about this if you drive conservatively if an auto probably closer to 14 I'd guess.

Also try browsing cars on Fuelly website.
I do that when I want to gauge consumption on cars, even for estimating fuel costs for my tax clients :)

The 530d is a very good contender. Has more torque to pull that heavy body with consumption being far less.

how soon are u looking to buy????i mite be selling my e39 530d at the end of the year, components are cheap if the car is driven properly and maintained properly, most a service can cost is about 5k with oils and diesel filters and then all airfilters for car and aircon which dont really need to be replaced every service

Thanks Spawn for the info. I need to sell my current car in the next 2 weeks if possible, but I will need to do a trade in to get rid of my current finance and then buy something else. Thats why I am looking at the E39.

2002 E39 530d for R69 900 with 234 000 km on the odo, a good buy or not?

looks clean, pic shows diff height on all shocks there ,do the usual b4 corner bounce, test drive car, when braking if steering whell moves upper control arms bushings prob need replacing, cheap fix if u do polly bushes, check autobox, put it in reverse, shuld go into gear easily, the milage on the car is high, but i did search for a year to get my current car,but for 70k it seems like a good buy, take vin number into dealership to check history, back then original owners still took the cars to the dealerships so u might be lucky

my typing went full retard there hahaha, was multi tasking

This looks clean , yes kilos a bit high but these engines will last if looked after ( Oil and coolant ) .
A service history would be good , when was the turbo replaced ? If not then maybe get
them down to 65000 and be prepared if the turbo goes .

Good luck . ( at least it is more economical than the e34 535i auto !! )

Ray, you right it should be more economical than the E34 535i.

I have also looked at the 3 series and actually saw a very clean looking 330d today for R90000 with 174000km, but my heart is pulling towards the 5 series.

Thanks for the inputs so far. :ty::ty:
