Hi Guys,

I stopped at a dealer last week in my 1989 525i (that I 'restored') - here is a pic:

I bought this car from the same dealer 13 years ago when she was Burgundy in colour.

He offered me a dark blue e39 2000 525i in exchange for my e34 and a R25000 difference that I have to pay. AND I can keep my 540i rims!

The blue 2000 525i has no service history and has only one key. Are new keys easy to get/expensive?

What do you guys think? What should I check for on the 525i?

I am really inexperienced in these things! But I am really excited by the small price to pay in exchange for the e39 525i Facelift!

Hopefully, I will be able to get some pics of the e39 2000 525i tomorrow.

Thanks!

Value whise I cant give any advice, sorry, but if you email me the goodies of the 525 he is willing to trade you on, I will see on enatis if all is ok on the car.

prado, let Coisman do the check for you, it will provide invaluable info. How can the car have no service history? It must have some from when it was on Plan. Give your key or VIN number to any dealer, and they will be able to tell how long the car was serviced by BMW. Post Plan will be anyone's guess if there is no further paper work. But by checking the engine out, and general condition of the car, you should get an idea of how the previous owner(s) looked after it. You can get the agents to make you another key, but it is expensive, I think around R2k to R3k. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Your car looks in great shape. Is there anything wrong with it? why change from a car that you know you have to something unknown?

I did an Enatis for Prado last night, on the car on offer, and its actually a 528i, and the owner history looks good, plus the overall history looks good.

Prado, maybe take some pics of the car on offer, so we fanatics can make a better comparison between your car, and the other one. :thumb:

Hi Guys, here are pics of that E39. Thanks to Coisman for the data.

Now, the confusing part will be more clear from the pics - it is advertised as 525i and has the new bumpers, lights and 2001 wheels. I have to got to take a better look at that car as soon as I get a chance.

I wouldn't mind a 528i! But got to know from the dealer what is going on! Maybe he doesn't even know it's a 528i!!!:flyfun:

I will get to drive it soon. I know a good work shop not far from the garage where it would get checked. Really am curious about this car!

Nothing wrong with a 328i, but the discrepancy is a bit strange.

Though if I have to say I think the e39 looks a bit on the worn side, but this is just my opinion from looking at the pics, personally I would keep the e34, for now at least. Rather the evil you know.
