Hi Fanatics

I posted that I'm loving a1exander's restore and build thread (awesome work he is doing. http://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=58768, and that we have done one as well, was quickly told that pics are a prerequisite [WINKING FACE]. I guess it's only fair that I share some of the blood sweat and tears that went into E36 M3 no.1 and currently going into E36 M3 no.2

M3 no.1 was bought for my cousin as a Christmas gift, the seller/owner promised that she was in good condition and not a lot needed to be done.
Now I'm not the most mechanical, handy man sort of guy. The seller had a lot of paperwork on the car that he had spent money on.
On seeing the car it looked ok, not great but ok, since I had flowed down the DBN to see the car, I didn't feel like going back empty handed, so we struck a deal, little did I know that the Christmas gift would be a work in progress gift for a month.
A month meant that he would get the car just after Christmas, but, BIG BUT, we needed it to be perfect.
My cousin thought I purchased it for me. And visited the workshop regularly to see the progress and was wondering why Bruce and team worked till all hours of the morning trying to get her perfect. Little did he know....

E36 M3 no.2 was for meeeee.
In my late teens and early twenties I watched and adored them flying by. Promised myself one day I would own one.
Saying that I've owned an E46 M3 Cab, 997 Carrera's, a few E30's (ps looking for a clean one now 325is [WINKING FACE]) E39's 540i's and currently have a mint E39 M5, and have owned quite a few other cars

I started the thread on another site not knowing about Fanatics.co.za.
After reading the site/forum for about two months now. I have finally found a SA site that love life and cars as much as I do.

Below is the site I started the thread on but will continue it here....
And below the thread is a teaser of how my cousins car came out and looks now

Hope you guys enjoy the Thread as much as we are enjoying the cars.

Not yet Wickey, they are on the car but haven't taken photos yet. They were rubbing with the 255's I fitted, down to 235's and only run now and then. Need some quality fender rolling, will post pics soon of the 18's on.

While I'm up semi-late on a Sunday night (have a 7:30am breakfast meeting in Sandton)
Thought I'd share what arrived for the M this week
Although my M came with Airbag Euro 3 Spoke steering wheel, and as much as I like her stock, I couldn't resist a M-Tech II steering wheel (non-airbag) they just the right size, fit and feel.
This one comes especially made a tad thicker than the standard one did [SMILING FACE WITH HEART-SHAPED EYES]

Steering wheel came very well packaged

Yes, that was indeed me... perving over your e36... When I read your post earlier, I was wondering if that was you last night too. LOVE this colour. Best colour for the e36 M3 in my opinion.

I got my 97 M3 with the 18 reps, at first I was disappointed that they were not the original std rims but as you said OEM look but better it fills the arches better and it has totally grown on me... eager to see it on yours.

Ok so thought I'd start where I left of on Stance...

My cousins car now complete, and the owner a very happy owner and driver. A dream come true... See Thread link at start of this thread.

With my cousins car complete, the hunt continued for one for me.
Low and behold....
A few months back, after years of searching, I managed to pry away not only one, but 2 cars that I've always wanted to own.
Both cars were in great condition, but not perfect. And if I'm to keep them as collectors pieces, I'd like them to as near perfect/new/mint as possible.

Below are both cars [WINKING FACE]😈
Pics taken on the day I went to see them and try negotiate a deal (apologies for poor lighting photos)

My new toy/collectors/ little did I know, my obsession M3

My Power plant, 2001 V8 E39 M5, considering modding the @#%£ out of her. (that's If my heart will let me mod a perfectly produced car from the M division)

As this is more a thread for the M3 I will continue on the M3 in time on this thread, till she is completely and utterly flawless to me.

Thanks Gareth
Shortly they should both be ready. Saying that, was just told 6 weeks wait for front respray for M3.... Going to have to wait it out as the panel shop I'm using I trust.
Good nose spray for the M and them probably VPS protective wrap of the front and fenders.

Got a gap to post.... yay...

After collecting the ladies, we drove them a bit (a day or so) and decided straight to the workshop for a deeper look

Interior of the M3 was a pearler. A good clean with some Meguires, ok maybe a lot of Meguires with my OCD.. And should have her looking brand spanking new

e2ejebun.jpg

Post inspection, it was a a we thought, cars were very well kept. The previous owner even replaced the exhaust on the M3 with an OEM factory exhaust. Loved the fact that he kept them so well.

Minor things we planned turned to bigger and bigger things in my head as the days went on.
In the end we decided.
Subtle changes but close to stock look.

Engine - No engine tampering, no chipping and tuning, just cleaning, polishing, restoring and making her breathe and flow as best a possible.

Suspension - Try get her handling and braking better than stock.

Cosmetics - Subtle changes, but keeping orange lights all round. Changes mainly stock look to Rims but one size bigger and a Eibach pro drop kit
Touch up paint for stone chips, full polish, glaze and protective wrap.
Interior only restore as best as possible.

Parts ordering. One of my favourite things, getting new shinny stuff. Pocket feels the burn though....

These arrived from all over the place

Bruce couldn't stop smiling. Mind you neither could I.

Liquid M even gave us our own display stand to keep our Liquids on.

18's out the box, but not quite the finish to them I like.

Tyre choice was next... Pirelli PZero was the choice

Brand new rims in the oven....

Rims came out so well. Was and am, extremely happy with the way the turned out.

Side by side comparison of 17" to 18" before

Comparison post with Pirelli rubber
udu9uzav.jpg

Was hoping that 255/35/18's would fit
uputa6ud.jpg

Have found out since that they rub quite badly [SEE-NO-EVIL MONKEY] switched to 235/40/18's for now.
Had to make a plan somehow, as the wider tyres looked the part on the car, haven't tried rolling fenders yet but now have a tool for it.
